Obligatory

The University of Pécs entrance exam for General Medicine and Dentistry has two parts, and the second is an interview. It lasts 20 to 30 minutes with a university professor, covers medicine-related questions and your motivation, and, according to Pécs's FAQ, includes two Biology and two Chemistry questions. This page sets out what Pécs says about it, how it is held, and how to prepare.

In short

  • The oral part is a 20 to 30 minute personal interview with a university professor 'about medicine related questions and motivation'. It is obligatory.
  • Pécs's FAQ adds: 'There will be two questions of Biology and two questions of Chemistry.'
  • It can be taken online on Zoom or MS Teams, or in person in Pécs, in Budapest or abroad at an exam run by the Medical School or its representatives.
  • Online, you need a camera and microphone, must be alone in the room and keep 'constant eye contact with the examiner'.

What the interview covers

About the exam describes the oral part in one sentence: 'a 20-30 minute personal interview with a university professor about medicine related questions and motivation'. Pécs's news article on the exam, of 29 April 2026, says you 'will discuss medicine-related topics and your personal motivation for pursuing a medical career'.

The FAQ is more specific about the science: 'There will be two questions of Biology and two questions of Chemistry.' So expect two kinds of question, about you and medicine, and about science, answered aloud in English.

Pécs publishes no list of interview questions, and does not say whether the science questions follow the written exam's topic list.

How and where it is held

  • Online, on Zoom or MS Teams, as most 2027 exams are planned to be. The meeting link comes by email before the exam.
  • Or in person: in Pécs, in Budapest, or abroad at an entrance exam run by the Medical School or one of its authorised representative agencies.
  • Online, you need a working camera and microphone. You must be alone in your room and keep constant eye contact with the examiner.
  • No electronic device is allowed during any part of the exam except a simple calculator. A breach can cancel your exam scores, end the exam or bar you from future exams.

Exams in Pécs, written part and interview, run every Wednesday from 3 March to 14 July 2027, booked by email two weeks ahead.

How it counts

The interview is part of the entrance exam, and Pécs says admission rests 'solely' on your performance at the entrance exam: school grades are not considered. How the interview is weighed against the written part is not published, and neither is a mark or pass level for it.

Results of the entrance exam come out within a week. If you pass, you receive an Acceptance Letter with the dates and deadlines of the next steps.

How to prepare

IvyTest's suggestions, from what Pécs says the interview covers:

  1. 01

    Explain science aloud

Take topics from Pécs's Biology and Chemistry list and explain each aloud in English in two minutes: what it is, how it works, why it matters. With four science questions in 20 to 30 minutes, each answer has to be clear and short.

  2. 02

    Practise follow-up questions

Have someone ask 'why?' after each of your answers. Saying 'I am not sure, but I think' and reasoning aloud is better than falling silent.

  3. 03

Know why medicine, and why Pécs

Have a clear, honest answer about your motivation and what you know of the profession, backed by something you have done or seen.

  4. 04

    Rehearse the online setup

Test Zoom or MS Teams, your camera and your microphone, and find a quiet room where you can be alone. Practise looking at the camera, since eye contact with the examiner is a rule.

  5. 05

    Start before the written part

Results come within a week of the exam, so there is no long gap in which to begin. Prepare the interview alongside the written part.
