- EU, first list (40th)
- 58.00
- EU, last direct offer (89th)
- 54.50
- Non-EU, first list (70th)
- 54.25
- Non-EU, last direct offer (130th)

On Università Cattolica's 2026/27 rankings for Medicine and Surgery in English, the first EU list stopped at 58.00 out of 65 (40th place) and the first non-EU list at 54.25 (70th). As places were given up, direct offers reached 54.50 on the EU list (89th) and 51.25 on the non-EU list (130th); later calls for interest went down to 51.75 (130th, 20 October 2026) and 48.25 (205th, 7 September 2026).
In short
- The EU list started at 58.00 (40th) and, through six notices offering freed places, reached 54.50 (89th) by 19 June 2026.
- The non-EU list started at 54.25 (70th) and, through five notices, reached 51.25 (130th) by 25 June 2026.
- After that, Cattolica asked the next positions whether they still wanted a place: down to 51.75 on the EU list and 48.25 on the non-EU list. Who took one is not published.
- The two lists were almost the same shape: 709 and 713 candidates, with medians above the floor of 43.00 and 43.25. The non-EU cut-off is lower because it has 70 places, not 40.
- These are one cycle's figures on one paper, not targets that carry over; the 2027/28 test keeps the format but rewrites the physics syllabus.

Everything here comes from Cattolica's own documents: the two final rankings of the 25 March 2026 test, read in full, and all 18 numbered notices on its Rankings and waiting lists page, the last of them dated 20 October 2026. No candidate's code is reproduced. Cattolica no longer publishes earlier years' rankings, so 2026/27 is the only cycle covered.
This covers the six-year Medicine and Surgery programme taught in English at the Rome campus (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery “A. Gemelli”). It does not cover the Italian-taught Medicina e chirurgia or the English-taught programme in Bolzano, which have their own tests and rankings.
Cattolica cut-off scores 2026: where each list stopped
Cattolica ranks its two quotas separately: 40 places for EU citizens and equivalent, 70 for non-EU citizens residing abroad. Each list is read at three points. The first list ends at the last of the places. When a winner does not pay the first instalment, the place goes to the next on the list by a direct offer, with about a week to pre-enrol. Once direct offers stopped, the notices changed: they asked the next positions to say, without commitment, whether they still wanted a place, and assigned any left in ranking order to those who replied.
| 2026/27 | Places | Last place, first list | Last direct offer | Last call for interest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EU | 40 | 40th, 58.00 | 89th, 54.50 | 130th, 51.75 |
| Non-EU | 70 | 70th, 54.25 | 130th, 51.25 | 205th, 48.25 |
Scores out of 65: +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong one, 0 for a blank. The last direct offer is the firmest figure Cattolica's documents give; the calls for interest show how far down a place was still possible, not who took one.
The two lists, position by position
Plotted against position, the two lists fall almost on top of each other: the 40th scored 58.00 on the EU list and 57.00 on the non-EU list, the 100th 53.75 and 52.50. What differs is where each list's places end. The EU list stopped early, at the 40th, and needed 49 more positions of direct offers; the non-EU list started 30 positions further down and needed 60 more.

Every notice, 2026/27
Cattolica published nine numbered notices for each list. The first ones offered freed places outright, to be taken by paying the first instalment of €4,000 within about a week; the later ones asked for a non-binding expression of interest. The score column gives the results at the first and last position each notice named.

EU Notice 6 is dated 19 June 2026 in the document and listed as 12 June on the page. EU Notice 7 prints its assignment date as 3 June 2026, before the notice itself; its reply deadline was 2 July. EU Notice 9 (20 October 2026) asks for replies by 25 October, with places assigned from 26 October.
How the 2026 scores were spread
Each list ranks about 710 candidates, and their shapes match closely: half scored below about 43 out of 65, about one in four scored 50 or more (172 EU, 163 non-EU), and only 28 and 21 reached 60. Twenty EU and 26 non-EU candidates fell below the 20-point floor, two of them below zero after the −0.25 penalties.

Ties at the boundary
Scores move in quarter points, so ties are common. On the first EU list the 40th place sat inside a tie: positions 40 to 43 all scored 58.00, so the order among them was set by the call's tie-break. The call ranks equal scores by the logical reasoning questions first, then Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, general culture and the ethics and religious culture questions, and finally the younger candidate first.
The same happened further down: EU positions 88 to 92 shared 54.50, where the last direct offer stopped at the 89th, and non-EU positions 125 to 130 shared 51.25. A headline score alone does not say which side of a line a candidate fell on.
The 20-point floor and the additional learning obligations
Below 20 out of 65 no place is offered, whatever is left. In 2026/27 that applied to 20 EU and 26 non-EU candidates. Above the floor, the lists also flag additional learning obligations (OFA), set when a candidate answers fewer than 4 of 18 Biology, 2 of 12 Chemistry, 1 of 4 Physics or 1 of 4 Mathematics questions correctly. 50 EU and 37 non-EU rows carry at least one; none of the candidates within the 40 and 70 places of the first lists does.
Is 54.50 the Cattolica cut-off?
It is the firmest figure available, not a confirmed one. A direct offer says a place was there for that position; it does not say the candidate took it. Calls for interest go further down, to 51.75 on the EU list and 48.25 on the non-EU list, but Cattolica does not say who answered them or which of them were given a place, and EU Notice 9's places are assigned from 26 October 2026.
So the honest reading of 2026/27 is a range: on the EU list, 54.50 was enough for an offer and 51.75 kept a candidate in reach into late October; on the non-EU list, 51.25 and 48.25.
What this means for a 2027 applicant
The 2027/28 test is on 17 March 2027 (extra sessions on 18 March if needed), online, in the same format: 65 questions in 65 minutes (20 logical reasoning, 18 Biology, 12 Chemistry, 4 Physics, 4 Mathematics, 2 general culture, 5 ethics and religious culture), +1, −0.25 and 0, with the same floor of 20 and the same 40 EU and 70 non-EU places. The physics syllabus in Annex A was rewritten. The EU ranking is due on 7 April and the non-EU ranking on 14 April 2027.
Because the paper changes every year, use these figures as the level of the 2026 field rather than a line to beat: a steady score in the mid-50s out of 65 on full, timed mocks in this format is where both 2026 lists were offering places.
Questions
What is the Cattolica medicine cut-off score?
For Medicine and Surgery in English in 2026/27, the first lists stopped at 58.00 out of 65 (EU, 40th place) and 54.25 (non-EU, 70th). As places were given up, direct offers reached 54.50 (EU, 89th) and 51.25 (non-EU, 130th).
What is the minimum score for Cattolica medicine?
20 out of 65. Below it no place is offered, even if places remain. Above it, admission depends on your position within your quota's ranking.
Why is the non-EU cut-off lower than the EU one?
Because the non-EU quota has 70 places and the EU quota 40. The two lists of 2026/27 were almost the same shape (709 and 713 candidates, with medians above the floor of 43.00 and 43.25), so a list with more places simply reaches further down.
How does the Cattolica waiting list (scorrimento) work?
When a winner does not pay the first €4,000 instalment, the place is offered to the next on the list by a numbered notice, with about a week to pre-enrol. After the direct offers, Cattolica asks the next positions to express a non-binding interest and assigns any places left in ranking order to those who replied.
How many people apply to Cattolica medicine in English?
The 2026/27 final rankings list 709 EU and 713 non-EU candidates for 40 and 70 places: 1,422 candidates for 110 places.
When are the 2027 Cattolica rankings published?
Scores from 31 March 2027, the EU ranking from 7 April and the non-EU ranking from 14 April 2027, after the online test of 17 March 2027. Winners pre-enrol by 23 April 2027.
Method
Both final rankings were read in full from the PDFs on Cattolica's Rankings and waiting lists page: every row's position and score, checked to run from the first to the last position without a gap and in descending order, and whether the row carries an OFA flag. Each notice was read whole for its date, its kind (places offered or a call for interest), the positions it named, the places freed and its deadlines, and the scores at those positions were then taken from the ranking.
The page shows counts, positions, bands and notices only; the candidate codes on the lists are not reproduced. Rankings for cycles before 2026/27 are not published on the page any more and were not found at the same address pattern.
