Cattolica's Medicine and Surgery test is sat at home, on your own computer, watched live by a proctor and recorded on audio and video. On 17 March 2027 you will need a computer with webcam and microphone, a smartphone filming your desk from the side, a quiet room with one closed door, and nothing else: no paper, no calculator, no second screen. This page sets out the equipment, the rules, the day itself and what happens if the connection fails.
In short
- The test runs on a remote-proctoring platform, the Proctor Exam system, with live supervision and a review of the recordings afterwards. Results stay provisional until that review.
- You need a computer with webcam and microphone, Google Chrome as the only browser, at least 1.5 Mbps up and down, and a smartphone or tablet with a camera and the proctoring app.
- Paper of any kind is forbidden; calculations go on a digital sheet inside the exam platform. Both hands must stay in view, and you may not leave the desk once identified.
- Cattolica says to allow about three hours in total. A candidate who connects after identification has closed is not admitted.
What you need
The 2027/28 call (Art. 7) lists the minimum equipment. A setup below it may pass the preliminary check and still fail on the day, and the call makes the candidate responsible for that.
| Item | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Computer | Windows 8 or later, Linux, or macOS 10.14 or later, with webcam and microphone. A work computer is strongly discouraged. |
| Browser | Google Chrome, version 81 or later, as the only browser |
| Connection | At least 1.5 Mbps upload and download |
| Second camera | A smartphone or tablet with a camera (Android 4.1 or iOS 8 or later), plugged in, running a 34 MB app from Google Play or the App Store. A tablet can replace the phone, not the computer. |
The room and the rules
Breaking any of these rules can mean exclusion from the competition, during the test or when the recordings are reviewed afterwards (Art. 6).
- A well-lit, quiet room with a single door, closed for the whole test, and nobody else in it.
- A desk clear of every object, with the phone at your side filming the desk and both your hands at all times.
- No paper of any kind, no books or notes, no calculator, no headphones or earplugs, no extra monitor, keyboard or mouse, and no other app or browser page open.
- No leaving the desk after identification for any reason, no talking to anyone and no reading the questions aloud.
- Candidates with a learning disorder or a disability can request measures by 17 February 2027: up to 30% extra time for learning disorders, up to 50% for disabilities, and a non-scientific calculator only if the diagnosis prescribes one.
From the first email to the last answer
01
The activation email
Registered candidates receive an email from convocazioni@ilmiotest.it with instructions for the technical check. From the 5th day before the test, check audio, microphone, webcam, the phone's camera and the connection, by the day before.
02
The second email
Only after the check does the platform send the link for the test. Your time arrives by email at least 5 days before; the list of sittings is published from 10 March 2027.
03
Set-up and identification
Set up both cameras and film the room with the phone. Photograph a valid ID document and your face, then wait for the proctor's go-ahead; the wait depends on how identification is going.
04
The test
Read and confirm the on-screen instructions, then 65 questions in 65 minutes. You can mark a question for review and return to it; a marked answer still counts as confirmed. Watch the chat for messages from the commission.
05
Reserve questions and submission
Seven reserve questions follow in 7 minutes, one per subject. A summary page shows answered, marked and blank questions before you submit; the test also closes itself when time runs out.
If the connection fails
An interruption of more than 5 minutes caused by your own devices or connection is reviewed by Cattolica, which decides whether the test can stand. If the exam platform itself disconnects for a proven technical reason, Cattolica may admit you to a recovery session on 24 March 2027.
Report a platform disconnection by 23:59 on 18 March 2027: to ammissioni-rm@unicatt.it with an Italian diploma, to international.admissions-rm@unicatt.it with a foreign one. If the disconnection was not the test provider's fault, there is no recovery session and you keep the score reached at that moment.
IvyTest's advice: run the technical check as soon as the email arrives, on the computer, phone, room and network you will use on the day, and keep the phone charging.
The Italian-taught test is sat in person
Medicina e chirurgia, Cattolica's Italian-taught degree in Rome, does not use the home-based format. In 2026/27 its test was computer-based at test centres in Rome, Milan, Naples, Bari, Reggio Calabria, Catania, Palermo and Cagliari, each candidate booking a city, day and time until places ran out.
There, candidates bring a valid ID document in the original (non-EU citizens also a passport and residence permit) and a pen; the university provides blank sheets for notes. Phones, calculators and tablets are not allowed. The 2027/28 call for that course is not out yet.
Questions
Is the Cattolica Medicine test online?
Yes, for the English-taught Medicine and Surgery degree: it is sat from home on 17 March 2027 under remote proctoring. The Italian-taught Medicina e chirurgia was sat in person at test centres in 2026/27.
Can I use scrap paper in the Cattolica online test?
No. The call forbids paper of any kind. For calculations and notes there is a digital sheet you can open inside the exam platform at any time.
What do I need to sit the Cattolica test from home?
A computer with webcam and microphone (Windows 8 or later, Linux or macOS 10.14 or later), Google Chrome, at least 1.5 Mbps, a smartphone or tablet with camera and the proctoring app, and a quiet room with one closed door and nobody else in it.
What happens if my internet drops during the Cattolica test?
An interruption over 5 minutes caused by your own equipment is reviewed by Cattolica. A proven platform disconnection, reported by 23:59 on 18 March 2027, can lead to a recovery session on 24 March; otherwise you keep the score reached when you were cut off.
