Checked against Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele's official pages on 27 October 2026. UniSR had not published its 2027/28 Calls on 27 October 2026; every rule and date quoted is from the 2026/27 Calls, which apply to 2026/27 only.

Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele (UniSR) teaches medicine in two degrees, and each has its own admission test. The International MD Program (IMDP) is taught in English and selects with a 60-question test in English, mostly reasoning. The Italian-taught Medicina e Chirurgia, which shares its test with Dentistry, selects with a 60-question science test in Italian. Searches for "test San Raffaele medicina" can mean either. This page compares the two as UniSR's 2026/27 Calls set them out.

In short

  • IMDP: 60 questions in 80 minutes, all in English, 36 on logic, problem solving and reading comprehension and 24 on Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
  • Italian-taught: 60 questions in 60 minutes, 20 each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with 10% of the questions in English. No logic section.
  • Both are sat from home, in two sessions, scored +1, −0.25 and 0, and rank each candidate's better score. In 2026/27 the IMDP sat in February and March, the Italian-taught test in April.
  • They are separate competitions: you register, and pay, for each one you want to sit.

Who competes for which places

  • IMDP, EU quota: EU citizens, non-EU citizens resident in Italy or with EU-equal status, and citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, San Marino and the Holy See.
  • IMDP, non-EU quota: non-EU citizens resident outside Italy, with no second EU citizenship and no EU permanent residence permit.
  • Italian-taught: Italian citizens, EU citizens and the non-EU citizens the Ministry's rules treat as equal to them, on equal terms. Its Call has no separate quota for non-EU candidates resident abroad.
  • Both: enrolment needs a secondary school diploma. The IMDP also needs an English certificate at C1, unless your last two years of school, or two consecutive years of college, were entirely in English.

Sitting both

UniSR's admissions pages say that to sit more than one of its admission tests you register for one at a time, repeating the online procedure and the payment for the second. In 2026/27 the two medicine tests did not clash: the IMDP sessions were in February and March and the Italian-taught ones in April, and registration for the Italian-taught test stayed open until 1 April 2026.

  • IvyTest's reading: the science overlaps, but not evenly. The Italian-taught test gives 20 questions each to Biology, Chemistry and Physics and has no Mathematics or logic block; the IMDP gives 36 of its 60 to reasoning.
  • The IMDP is in English from start to finish; the Italian-taught test is in Italian, apart from 10% of its questions.
  • Each test's time pressure differs: 80 seconds a question for the IMDP, 60 for the Italian-taught test.

How each ranking works

Both Calls ask candidates on the list to declare in June, 9 to 22 June in 2026, that they want a place, and only those who do form the definitive ranking. For the IMDP that applies to the EU list; non-EU candidates confirm with a €1,500 advance instead. The Italian-taught test feeds one merit ranking, which UniSR does not publish, from which it draws a first-preference ranking for each of its two degrees.

On the Italian-taught definitive first-preference ranking for Medicina e Chirurgia (1,081 rows, dated 26 June 2026), the 750th place scored 25.50 out of 60. As places were turned down the offers moved on: the notice of 26 October 2026 opened enrolment to the 1,011th, at 14.50, until 29 October 2026.

A notice opens a place to a position; it does not say the candidate took it. The IMDP lists are analysed on the cut-off research page.

Questions

Is the San Raffaele medicine test the same for the English and Italian courses?

No. The International MD Program has its own test in English (60 questions in 80 minutes, mostly reasoning), and the Italian-taught Medicina e Chirurgia has another in Italian (60 science questions in 60 minutes). Each has its own Call, dates, fee and ranking.

Can I sit both San Raffaele medicine tests?

Yes. UniSR's pages say you register for one test at a time and repeat the procedure and the payment for the second. In 2026/27 their sessions did not overlap: February and March for the IMDP, April for the Italian-taught test.

Is there logic in the Italian-taught San Raffaele test?

Not in 2026/27. Decree n. 9924 sets 20 questions each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with 10% of all questions in English. Logic and reading comprehension are tested only in the IMDP test.

How many places does San Raffaele offer in medicine?

For 2026/27: 86 EU and 64 non-EU places in the International MD Program, and 750 in the Italian-taught Medicina e Chirurgia, with 60 more in Dentistry through the same test. All are subject to the Ministry's approval.

Practise in the real format

The free practice paper has 60 questions in the format of the 2026/27 Calls, 36 on logic, problem solving and reading comprehension and 24 on Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, to sit in 80 minutes with the +1, −0.25 and 0 scoring, every answer explained. It uses IvyTest's five-option format, as the Calls do not state the number of options. When you want more, the IvyTest San Raffaele package adds a full simulator, the study guide and lessons.
