Jagiellonian University Medical College teaches Dentistry in English as well as Medicine: a five-year programme leading to the Polish title of Lekarz Dentysta. There is no separate dental admissions test. DDS candidates sit the same entrance exam as Medicine candidates, from the same syllabus, on the same day, only earlier: the Dentistry session starts at 10:00 CEST. What differs is everything around the exam: far fewer places, a higher fee, and in 2026 more applicants for each place than Medicine had. This page brings the DDS facts together.
In short
- Same exam as Medicine: 100 five-option questions in 180 minutes on Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Logic and Ethics, online on 5 June 2027 at 10:00 CEST.
- Requirements for 2027/28: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 87 or C1 Advanced, and chemistry plus biology or physics completed at school with a graded certificate.
- Admission rests solely on the exam result; the Senate's limits for 2027/28 are 20 places at most and 15 at least.
- Tuition is €17,000 a year for students admitted in 2026/27; the 2027/28 fee is not published yet.
One exam for Dentistry and Medicine
The DDS menu's 'Examination Material Scope 2027/28' link opens the Medicine scope page itself, and the DDS Application criteria send candidates there for the exam's details. The Senate's rules give both programmes one written exam, Reasoning and Critical Thinking in Premedical Sciences, scored from 0 to 100. Each programme then has its own ranking list and its own places.

DDS entry requirements for 2027/28
The DDS Application criteria and Annex 3 of Senate Resolution 62/V/2026 set the same short list. Everything except the exam is a condition to meet, not a score.
- English: IELTS at least 6.5, TOEFL iBT at least 87, or C1 Advanced (CAE). For 2027/28 there is no route through secondary education in English or Scandinavian school grades.
- Science: biology or physics, and chemistry, completed in secondary or supplementary education and confirmed by a certificate including the grade.
- Selection: 'Admissions to the program are based solely on the entrance examination results', as for Medicine. No interview.
- Application: in IRK from 1 March to 5 May 2027 (12:00), with a PLN 100 fee still marked 'TBC'. Candidates from Scandinavia can also contact EduPlanet (eduplanet.no, eduplanet.se), named on JUMC's page.
Tuition: €17,000 a year for 2026/27 admissions
JUMC's tuition page lists the DDS fee by year of admission: what you pay depends on when you started, not on your year of study today. Five years at €17,000 is €85,000 for the programme (IvyTest's sum). The fee for 2027/28 admissions is not published yet.
| Admitted in | Tuition per year |
|---|---|
| 2026/27 | €17,000, years 1–5 |
| 2025/26 | €16,000 |
| 2023/24 and 2024/25 | €14,000 (years 1–2), €15,500 (year 3), €16,000 (years 4–5) |
| 2022/23 | €13,000, rising to €15,000 |
| 2021/22 | €12,000, rising to €14,000 |
| 2019/20 and 2020/21 | €11,000, rising to €13,000 |
The 2019/20 to 2024/25 intakes paid less in the first years and more later; for 2026/27 admissions the fee is the same in all five years. Medicine for 2026/27 admissions is €16,000 a year over six years.
DDS admissions 2023–2026
UJ's statistics for programmes in foreign languages give a row for Dentistry in English every year. Applicants are paid applications across all rounds; enrolled are those who completed enrolment.
| Year | Places | Applicants | Per place | Enrolled | Minimum | Average admitted | Last qualified, round 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 20 | 59 | 2.95 | 16 | 50 | 62.38 | 50 |
| 2024 | 20 | 91 | 4.55 | 19 | 70 | 80.42 | 70.00 |
| 2025 | 20 | 111 | 5.55 | 24 | 40 | 74.88 | 63.00 |
| 2026 | 20 | 140 | 7.00 | 19 | 50 | 80.89 | 71.00 |
Applicants more than doubled in three years, from 59 to 140. On the first 2026 Dentistry list, 86 of the 140 candidates were at or above the minimum of 50. With 20 places, a handful of candidates moves every figure, so read single years with care.
Dentistry or Medicine: what the 2026 figures say
Both programmes rank on the same exam, so their 2026 figures can be set side by side. The differences are small; the scale is not.
- Competition: 7.00 applicants per place for Dentistry against 5.29 for Medicine.
- Last qualified in round 1: 71.00 for Dentistry, 70.00 for Medicine; the Rector's minimum was 50 for both.
- Average admitted: 80.89 for Dentistry, 79.78 for Medicine.
- Size: 20 places against 120, so one more or one fewer strong candidate shifts Dentistry's threshold far more than Medicine's.
