Campus Bio-Medico test scoring: the minimum, the penalty and the ranking

Checked against the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma's official pages on 27 October 2026. UCBM had not published its 2027/28 call for Medicine and Surgery and MedTech on 27 October 2026; every rule and date quoted is from the 2026/27 calls, which apply to 2026/27 only.

The Campus Bio-Medico test is scored out of 60: one point for a right answer, minus 0.2 for a wrong one, nothing for a blank. A total of 12 makes a candidate eligible; a place depends on where that total sits on the ranking, which is one list per degree and moves for months as winners decline. This page sets out the rules in the 2026/27 calls, the arithmetic of guessing, and how the 2026 Medicine and Surgery lists actually moved.

In short

  • Each question scores +1 if right, −0.2 if wrong or with more than one answer, and 0 if left blank. The maximum is 60, and scores move in steps of 0.2.
  • A total of 12/60 or more makes an EU or equivalent candidate eligible (idoneo); under 12 a candidate is not ranked and cannot enrol. The non-EU call sets 10. There is no minimum per subject.
  • Ties are broken by the Biology score, then Chemistry, then Physics, then the younger candidate (Italian EU call).
  • In 2026 the 84th and last winner on the provisional Medicine and Surgery list scored 48.2; by late October the calls had reached position 150 of the final list, at 32.0.

The rules in the 2026/27 calls

Article 6 of the EU call sets the scoring and the minimum; Article 7 sets the ranking. The Italian text is the legal one, and where its English translation differs the Italian prevails.

RuleWhat the call says
Correct answer+1 point
Wrong answer, or more than one answer−0.2 points
No answer0 points
Maximum60 points
Minimum to be ranked12 points (EU and equivalent call); 10 points (non-EU call). Below it a candidate is not eligible and cannot enrol in any case.
TiesHigher Biology score, then Chemistry, then Physics, then the younger candidate
WinnersThe first 84 on the Medicine and Surgery list and the first 68 on the MedTech list; the rest at 12 or more are eligible (idonei)

The English translation of the EU call and the non-EU call name Mathematics instead of Physics as the third tie-break, although the test has no Mathematics questions. The English translation of the non-EU call also prints the minimum as "10/80" and a logic tie-break; its Italian text, which prevails, says 10 points and Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics.

When a guess pays

Each question has five options and a wrong answer costs a fifth of a point. If you are equally unsure between the options left, the expected gain from answering is (chance of being right × 1) − (chance of being wrong × 0.2). It is above zero whenever the chance of being right is more than one in six.

Options you cannot rule outChance if you pick at randomExpected points for answering
51 in 5 (20%)+0.04
41 in 4 (25%)+0.10
31 in 3 (33%)+0.20
21 in 2 (50%)+0.40

This is IvyTest's arithmetic from the call's rule, not UCBM advice, and it assumes the remaining options are equally likely. Example: 34 right, 10 wrong and 16 blank gives 34 − 2 = 32.0.

How the ranking works

  • There is one ranking per degree: Medicine and Surgery and MedTech. A candidate registered for both appears on both lists with the same score.
  • Each list is published by Rector's Decree and shows candidates only by their Unique ID, the code the registration portal assigns.
  • In the EU call the provisional ranking comes first. Winners enrol in March; the final ranking in July keeps only candidates who uploaded an English certificate from Annex B by 19 June.
  • Places left free are offered down the list by numbered public notices, normally published on Tuesdays and Fridays. In the EU call a candidate called enrols between 12:00 on the day the notice gives and 12:00 on the next working day (within five working days in the non-EU call), or is treated as having withdrawn.
  • After enrolling, every student sits a separate test in mathematics, physics and chemistry before classes start. Under 60% in a subject brings an additional learning obligation (OFA) in it, to be cleared within the first year.

Questions

What score do you need to pass the Campus Bio-Medico test?

To be ranked, 12 out of 60 in the EU and equivalent call (10 in the non-EU call). A place takes more: in 2026 the provisional Medicine and Surgery list's 84th and last winner scored 48.2, and the calls on the final list had reached 32.0 by late October.

Is there negative marking in the Campus Bio-Medico test?

Yes. A wrong answer, or a question with more than one answer marked, costs 0.2 points. A blank scores 0 and a right answer 1.

Is there a minimum score per subject?

No. The calls set only a minimum total, 12 out of 60 for EU and equivalent candidates. Subject scores matter only to break ties, Biology first.

Does my score count for both Medicine and Surgery and MedTech?

Only if you registered for both, paying the fee twice. You sit one test, and the same score then places you on each degree's own ranking.

Practise in the real format

The free practice paper has 60 questions in the format of the 2026/27 call, 20 each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics with five options, to sit in 100 minutes without a calculator and score with +1, −0.2 and 0, every answer explained. Every question is IvyTest's own, not an official Campus Bio-Medico question. When you want more, the IvyTest Campus Bio-Medico package adds a full simulator, the study guide and lessons.
