Student life

Living in Madrid as a medical student

UAX publishes no exam dates: the general admission tests run Monday to Friday and the Medicine specific test on set Saturdays it does not publish, while Medicine places are allocated by ranking and the definitive list comes out on 31 July.

Madrid is Spain's largest student city, with an extensive metro network and neighbourhoods at very different price points.

As in any large capital, budget more for housing than in Spain's smaller university cities.

FAQ

UAX admissions FAQ

Yes. The degree and the admission test are both in Spanish. If Spanish isn't your mother tongue you sit a Spanish test worth 5% of the admission mark; the 2026/27 admissions guide sets no minimum level for Medicine (the previous edition asked for B1).

Yes. Every Spanish private medical school in our catalogue runs its own written knowledge test, typically biology and chemistry, often with physics, mathematics or English added. Format, length and delivery (online or on campus) differ by school; this guide covers the one your target university runs.

Not at any school that publishes a rule. CEU Cardenal Herrera, Universidad de Navarra, CEU San Pablo, CEU Fernando III and UIC Barcelona all state that a wrong answer costs nothing. Alfonso X el Sabio and Católica de Valencia publish no marking rule at all, so confirm theirs directly.

Only if you want to train as a specialist in Spain. The MIR (Médico Interno Residente) is Spain's mandatory national exam for entry into specialised residency training: a 200-question test run by the Ministerio de Sanidad each autumn. It governs residency access within Spain specifically, separate from how your degree is recognised across the rest of the EU.

Yes, it's the 2027 edition, built from the latest admission rules Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio has published. Where a 2027 date or detail isn't published yet, confirm it with the university before you rely on it.

Yes. UAX-format practice sessions are available inside the simulator and align with the guide section by section.
