Entry requirements

LF2 entry requirements for international students

You need secondary education completed with a school-leaving examination, an online application with its fee, and the two-part entrance exam: a written test of 75 questions in 90 minutes (Biology, Chemistry and Physics 20 each, Logic 15; 3 points a question, the sciences multiple-response and all-or-nothing), then an interview. The procedure is conducted entirely in English, and the admissions record asks for no separate English certificate.

Your school documents are assessed by the faculty: an authenticated copy of your certificate and transcript (IB, EB and A-level results can often be verified directly by your school), with an official translation if they are not in Czech, English or Slovak, delivered by post or in person on your exam day, never by email. The page still shows the last cycle's deadline, 31 August 2026.

  • A-levels: A, A, A in Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • IB: HL Chemistry, HL Biology and Physics or any Mathematics (HL or SL) totalling at least 19, and at least 35 overall.
  • European Baccalaureate: 9.00 or above in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics or Physics, and an overall average of 90.00 or above.
  • AP at the 85th percentile or better; an MCAT score of 512 or more; or a Bachelor of Science in a medical-related field with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • School grades from Germany and Austria (Abitur 1.30 or better), Norway, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Australia and Iceland, each with its own minimum.

Any of these can waive the whole entrance exam, interview included. Send the waiver request with your application, electronically, by 30 April 2027; the faculty waives the exam for at most 25 top-scoring applicants in each of its two groups of qualifications.

Curriculum

The six-year MD programme at LF2

LF2 has taught General Medicine in English since 1992, a six-year programme that ends with the MUDr. (MD) degree. The theoretical departments are at the Plzeňská campus and the clinical departments at Motol and Homolka University Hospitals in Prague, with internships in other hospitals in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Years 1 to 3 build the foundations, from cell biology and anatomy to pathology, pathophysiology and immunology, with nursing, bioethics, psychology, biostatistics and epidemiology alongside. Years 4 to 6 move to the wards in block rotations, with optional subjects, elective clinical tracks and an extended internship in the sixth year. The degree ends with state examinations in Public Health, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Paediatrics.

LF2 lists the programme's recognition by the Medical Board of California, the World Directory of Medical Schools, the World Federation for Medical Education and the Medical Council of Thailand.

Academic calendar

The LF2 academic calendar

LF2 publishes its academic calendar on its Study pages: enrolment for each year, the start of teaching, and the examination periods (years 1 to 3 in semesters, years 4 to 6 in blocks). For 2026/27 the optional subjects are registered from 16 to 30 September 2026 for the winter semester and from 1 to 14 February 2027 for the summer semester.

Rankings

Charles University Second Faculty of Medicine ranking

Rankings measure Charles University as a whole, not one faculty: QS and Times Higher Education both rank the university, and every one of its five medical faculties awards the same MUDr. degree. In THE's World University Rankings 2027 Charles University is in the 451–500 band, and in THE's Medical and Health table (the 2026 edition, the latest) in the 301–400 band. QS's tables could not be read, so their figures are not given here.

The students' own voice is AIMS, the Association of International Medical Students, founded in 2008, which represents everyone in the English programme: it runs welcome days, the Pelican Buddy Project pairing first-years with older mentors, workshops and events. Student life

Living in Prague as a medical student

2LF's entrance exam covers Biology, Physics and Chemistry (20 questions each) plus a separate Logic section, a broader subject spread than some of Charles University's other faculties. Tuition and fees here are set independently of Charles's other four Czech medical faculties.
