Fees
Charles University LF1 medicine fees
LF1 charges the same tuition for General Medicine and Dentistry in English, in euros, per academic year. These are the figures in Charles University's 2027/28 admissions records for both programmes, the same as LF1's fee page gives for students starting in 2026/27.

LF1 General Medicine and Dentistry in English: fees for 2027/28 entrants
| Fee | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | €24,250 a year | Each academic year; the fee is set for each year's first-year students |
| Application fee | €285 | With the online application, by card or bank transfer; the application is valid only once it is paid, and without it you cannot sit the exam |
| Assessment of foreign education | A fee set by the faculty | If your school-leaving certificate is assessed by LF1, with legalised documents, by 31 August 2027 |
Applying to another Charles University faculty as well means a separate application and a separate fee there. LF1 is the only one of the five that charges in euros; the others charge in Czech crowns, from CZK 390,000 to 440,000 a year for 2027/28.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for international students
Admission to LF1's English programmes rests entirely on its entrance exam, in two rounds: a written test of 75 single-best-answer questions (Biology, Chemistry and General Science, 25 each, no deduction for a wrong answer), then, for those above the Dean's limit, five online multiple mini-interviews (MMI) worth 20 points each. The MMI score alone decides who is admitted. What you need besides:
- A completed secondary education, recognised in the Czech Republic: if LF1 assesses your foreign certificate (its nostrification page explains when), you pay the assessment fee and send legalised documents by 31 August 2027; you may apply before you finish school
- English good enough to study in it: no certificate is asked for, because passing the MMI demonstrates it
- The €285 application fee, paid before the exam
- One sitting a year: the exam can be taken once per academic year
Some applicants skip the written test, though never the MMI: graduates in medicine or dentistry from the Czech Republic, the EU or the OECD; holders of a bachelor's or master's degree since 2022 in biology, pharmacy, physics, chemistry, veterinary medicine or a health field; strong results since 2022 in the IB Diploma (36 points or more, with at least 13 from two higher-level sciences), A-levels (A*AA or better in two sciences or maths, one of them Chemistry or Biology), AP, the European Baccalaureate or the German Abitur; and six completed semesters of medicine or dentistry. The exact thresholds are in the admissions record.
Application timeline
LF1 application deadline and timeline for 2027/28
LF1's own pages still describe the 2026/27 cycle, which opened on 1 December 2025. For 2027/28, Charles University's admissions records already set the deadline and the exam windows:
LF1 General Medicine and Dentistry: 2027/28 timeline

Curriculum
The six-year General Medicine programme, and Dentistry
General Medicine at LF1 is a six-year programme leading to the MUDr. degree, taught in English for more than 30 years; Dentistry is a five-year programme leading to the MDDr. degree. Expected places for 2027/28: 150 in General Medicine and 30 in Dentistry. About 800 students from 50 countries study in LF1's English courses, and clinical teaching takes place in five Prague hospitals: the General University Hospital, Na Bulovce, Thomayer, the Military University Hospital and Motol.
The first year of General Medicine (2026/27 study plan) includes Anatomy and Anatomy Dissections, Basic Medical Terminology, Biophysics and Medical Physics, Biology and Genetics, Histology and Embryology, First Aid and Medical Informatics, and a Czech language course.
Preparation
Is there a pre-medical course for LF1?
LF1 does not require one. Its admission criteria point to the foundation programmes of Charles University's Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies (UJOP), which prepare for LF1's exam and MMI: Medicine and Pharmacy in English COMPLEX, 35 hours a week in Poděbrady from September 2027 (CZK 186,160, about €7,990), and FAST, 25 hours a week in Prague from November 2026 or November 2027 (from CZK 115,000, about €4,936). LF1's own How to prepare page offers an official mock test with a key and recommends A-level textbooks.

The campus
The First Faculty's Purkyně Institute
The First Faculty of Medicine teaches in buildings across Prague; the model shows one of them, the Purkyně Institute at Albertov 4, in the university's Albertov quarter. Designed by Alois Špalek, built in 1923–1925 and opened in 1926, it houses the Institutes of Biology and Medical Genetics, Pharmacology, Histology and Embryology, and Cell Biology and Pathology, around the 331-seat Purkyně Amphitheatre, with the semicircular rotunda at its west end.

Purkyně Institute
The main front on Albertov, with the inscription Purkyňův ústav over the entrance. It houses First Faculty institutes: Biology and Medical Genetics, Pharmacology, Histology and Embryology, and Cell Biology and Pathology.
Rotunda
The semicircular west end and the building's signature: a museum in its basement, the Vejdovský hall on the ground floor and the Jánošík hall on the second floor, where students do microscopy practicals.
Purkyně Amphitheatre
The great lecture hall in the central wing, with tiered seating for 331 students.
East wing
Built for the institute of pharmacology and pharmacognosy; the Institute of Pharmacology is still in the building.
Student life
Living in Prague as a medical student
1LF is Charles University's oldest and largest medical faculty, based in central Prague. Tuition runs meaningfully higher here than at Charles's other Czech faculties: each faculty sets its own fees independently rather than sharing one schedule.
FAQ
LF1 admissions FAQ
Yes. Charles University First Faculty of Medicine delivers Medicine in English and runs its admission process in the same language.
At five of the seven Czech faculties in our catalogue, yes. Charles University's First Faculty follows the written paper with an online MMI, the Second Faculty with a committee interview worth up to 90 points, the Third Faculty with a separately scored interview worth 12 to 62 points, and the Hradec Králové faculty with a 40-point interview. Palacký University requires a successful interview with its Board of Admissions on motivation and academic background, with no published weight. The Pilsen faculty admits on the written exam alone; Masaryk University does too, though it states that an oral interview in English can be required in certain countries.
No separate national licensing exam. The Czech state exam (státní rigorózní zkouška) is built into the MUDr degree itself, combining a thesis and oral exam before the diploma is issued. Registering afterwards with the Czech Medical Chamber (ČLK) is compulsory to practise. One nuance: graduates of English-taught programmes typically go through an additional Ministry of Health 'recognition of fitness to practise' step that graduates of Czech-taught programmes don't need.
Yes, it's the 2027 edition, built from the latest admission rules Charles University First Faculty of Medicine has published. Where a 2027 date or detail isn't published yet, confirm it with the university before you rely on it.
