Semmelweis has no single exam day. Exams are held once or twice a week from early in the year until the end of June, and you choose your date in SEMAPHOR, its application system, once you have applied. The dates are not published on the website; this page sets out everything that is, from the deadline to the offer.

In short

  • Applications for 2027 close on 31 May 2027. The application start is 'to be announced soon', per the General Medicine page.
  • Exams are held once or twice a week until the end of June. The entrance-exam page says from early February, the General Medicine page from early March.

The two pages disagree on when the exam period starts (early February on the entrance-exam page, early March on the General Medicine page). The 2026/27 Admission Rules set the payment deadline at 31 July 2026; the FAQ says 21 August.

How you get an exam date

    Apply and pay the fee

    Submit your application in SEMAPHOR and pay the admission procedure fee (USD 400 on the General Medicine page and in the 2026/27 Rules, USD 350 on the FAQ). The fee covers two exam attempts.

    See the dates

    The list of exams appears on your application page in SEMAPHOR. Semmelweis adds exam dates according to demand and capacity, so the list can grow during the year.

    Sign up

    Register for the exam you want. You can withdraw only before that exam's registration deadline; missing an exam you registered for counts as an exam sat with no valid result.

    Read the invitation

    Semmelweis sends the final details and instructions to those signed up, in an invitation letter about a week before the exam. Have Safe Exam Browser working on your computer before then.

A second attempt

The admission procedure fee covers two entrance exams, and two is the most anyone may sit in a calendar year; parallel registrations do not get around it. If you are not admitted after the first, or you missed it, you may sign up for one more during the exam period.

The second attempt must be at least a week after the first. So if your first exam falls in the last week of the exam period, there is no second attempt: book your first date early enough to leave room for one.

After the exam: result, offer and appeal

  • The Admission Committee, professors of Semmelweis including the one who interviewed you, decides on the written tests, the interview and your documents together.
  • The decision shows in SEMAPHOR, and the letter comes by email within a week of the interview, usually in a couple of days.
  • An offer has to be accepted within two weeks, online, with the USD 2,000 deposit paid within 14 days of the notification; it is deducted from the first semester's tuition. Without both, the place is lost.
  • A place on the waiting list means your result was not enough for admission straight away, but Semmelweis may reconsider you if places are left at the end of the admission period.
  • If you believe the procedure was unfair, you can appeal by email to the Admission Team within 15 days, naming the specific breach of procedure.
