UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination at a glance
Overview
What is the UIC Barcelona Medicine entrance exam?
Universitat Internacional de Catalunya sets its own admission process for its Bachelor's Degree in Medicine in Barcelona. There is no shared national entrance exam behind it; like the other private Spanish medical schools in IvyTest's catalogue, UIC writes and grades its own assessment, and what it assesses is unusually broad. The admission tests are not a single science paper but three components sat together in one morning: an emotional-aptitude test, a knowledge test in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, and a structured written interview. UIC's own FAQ puts the combined sitting at four to five hours, running roughly from 09:00 to 13:00. In 2026 candidates living in Catalonia sat it in person at Campus Sant Cugat and everyone else online; for the next sitting, on 13 February 2027, UIC's entrance-exams page lists the Medicine exam as in person and leaves Medicine out of its online dates.
The single most important number UIC does publish is the weighting. The admission mark is half your prior academic record and half the admission tests. In the FAQ's own words, 'un 50% la nota de expediente de los estudios anteriores y un 50% las pruebas de admisión'. Half of the outcome is therefore fixed before you walk into the room, decided by school results you can no longer change. That is a materially different shape from the Italian and Romanian tests in this catalogue, where a single written paper carries the whole decision.
The second thing to understand is how the other half divides, and what UIC still leaves out. Its Medicine page splits the 50% evenly between the knowledge test and the emotional-intelligence test, 25% each, while the written interview carries no fixed share but can raise or lower the mark, and is only marked for the top 220 candidates. The tests are in Spanish, wrong answers are not penalised and calculators are not allowed. There is still no published question count, no option count and no minimum score. And UIC states plainly that no sample exams are available: 'No disponemos de modelos de examen'. Every figure in this guide that UIC has not published is left blank and labelled, rather than filled in with a number borrowed from another school. Where an unofficial study aid reports a figure, it is named as such and never presented as a UIC fact.

UIC Barcelona's Medicine page and its entrance-exams page were read directly on 12 October 2026: both give 13 February 2027 as the next Medicine exam, listed as in person. The rest of the Medicine page's admission section and the admissions FAQ (footer-dated 02/2026) still describe the 2026 sitting of Saturday 9 May 2026, and UIC's page on what each degree's tests contain shows 'Información temporalmente no disponible' for Medicine, so details of the 2027 sitting may still change. IvyTest reviews official UIC announcements and updates this guide when they do.
Structure
UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination format
UIC publishes the shape of the admission sitting but not its mechanics. What is confirmed: three components, sat together, over four to five hours from roughly 09:00 to 13:00, with the knowledge test and the emotional-intelligence test worth 25% of the admission mark each and the interview able to adjust it. What is not confirmed is the rest of a format table: the question count, the per-subject split and the option count. The rows below therefore report the components rather than inventing numbers for them.

- Confirmed by UIC as a knowledge-test subject; no official question count or weighting published. An unofficial study aid assumes an even quarter of roughly 80 questions
- Headings exist in the entrance-exam syllabus an unofficial study aid attributes to UIC, but Physics is never named among the knowledge-test subjects in UIC's own FAQ. Treat any Physics figure as more doubtful than the other three subjects: exclusion is likely, not certain
- No question count or item format published; UIC says answers are checked for internal consistency
- The one part that is not multiple choice. No length and no percentage: UIC says it can raise, lower or keep the mark, and marks it only for the top 220 candidates
Content
Question and subject breakdown
Three knowledge-test subjects are confirmed by UIC itself, a fourth is doubtful, and two further components are not knowledge tests at all. The knowledge test as a whole is 25% of the admission mark, but no per-subject share is published, so those shares are left blank rather than estimated into a number that would look official.
Biology
No published per-subject share; an unofficial study aid assumes an even quarter of the knowledge testConfirmed by UIC's own FAQ as a knowledge-test subject, at first-year Bachillerato level. Eighteen syllabus headings run from biomolecules and the chemistry of life through cell structure, reproduction and development, molecular genetics and biotechnology, metabolism, evolution and ecology, to microbiology and immunology.
Chemistry
No published per-subject share; an unofficial study aid assumes an even quarter of the knowledge testConfirmed by UIC's own FAQ, at first-year Bachillerato level. Eleven syllabus headings covering matter, moles and gases, mixtures and solutions, atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding, formulas and reactions, reactions in solution, reaction energy and rate, and carbon chemistry with functional groups. Calculators are not permitted, so stoichiometry and concentration items have to resolve by hand.
Mathematics
No published per-subject share; an unofficial study aid assumes an even quarter of the knowledge testConfirmed by UIC's own FAQ, and the subject that most distinguishes this paper from other medicine entrance tests. Fifteen syllabus headings reach well past the arithmetic and algebra a medicine applicant usually prepares: complex numbers, vectors, conics, and limits, derivatives and integrals all appear, alongside trigonometry, two-variable statistics and probability.
Physics
Likely excluded from the current cycle's knowledge test: named in the syllabus the study aid attributes to UIC but never in UIC's own list of knowledge-test subjects. Verify with UIC before building a Physics revision planTen syllabus headings covering measurement and units, kinematics in one and two dimensions, forces and Newton's laws, momentum and collisions, work, energy and power, electric current and circuits, and waves and optics. Carried here so the guide describes the whole syllabus, but flagged: UIC names the knowledge-test subjects twice and Physics is in neither list.
Emotional intelligence
25% of the admission markAn emotional-aptitude test sat as part of the same session. UIC lists no syllabus headings for it, so the areas IvyTest maps to it (self-awareness, integrity and consistency, empathy, teamwork, and everyday situational judgment) are derived from a description of what it covers rather than from an official list. Expect situational judgment rather than knowledge recall.
Structured written interview
No fixed percentage: UIC says it can raise, lower or keep the mark, and marks it only for the top 220 candidatesThe one part of the admission sitting that is not multiple choice. It is written rather than spoken, and sat in the same session as the two tests, which is why UIC's own admissions data records no separate interview stage. Preparation areas below (motivation for medicine, ethical reasoning, communication and empathy, resilience and self-awareness, teamwork and professional fit) are a derived framework, not UIC headings.
Marks
UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination scoring
The weighting is confirmed: 50% prior academic record, and 50% the admission tests, split 25% knowledge test and 25% emotional-intelligence test, with the written interview able to adjust the result. So is the headline marking rule: no penalty for wrong answers. What stays unpublished (the question count, the option count, the mark per correct answer and any minimum score) is recorded here as unpublished rather than filled in from another school's paper.
- Prior academic record
- 50% of the admission mark, fixed before you sit anything
- Admission tests (all three components together)
- 50% of the admission mark
- Split across the three components
- Knowledge test 25%, emotional-intelligence test 25%; the written interview has no percentage but can raise, lower or keep the mark (marked only for the top 220)
- Correct answer
- Not published. IvyTest records +1 as the neutral working assumption; UIC states no marking rule
- Incorrect answer
- No penalty: UIC's Medicine page states "There is no penalty for wrong answers"
- Unanswered question
- Not published
- Minimum eligible score
- None published; UIC states no pass mark for the tests or for the overall admission mark
- Per-subject floors
- None: there is no Spanish counterpart to the Italian OFA additional learning requirement, and UIC publishes no per-subject minimum
- Sample papers
- None: UIC states outright that no sample exams are available
- Calculators
- Not permitted: UIC's Medicine page states that calculators cannot be used

Full UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination syllabus
UIC's own pages state only the subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics) and the level (first-year Bachillerato). The numbered headings below come from an entrance-exam syllabus that an unofficial private study aid attributes to UIC; IvyTest could not find that syllabus on UIC's own pages (checked 12 October 2026), so treat the headings as a guide to scope rather than an official list. The detail under each heading is the study aid's expansion, not UIC wording, and the two non-knowledge components at the end have no headings at all, so their areas are derived.

- Self-awareness: recognising your own emotional state and its effect on judgment, accurate self-appraisal of strengths and limits, awareness of stress and fatigue, knowing when to ask for help
- Integrity and consistency: honesty under pressure, consistency between stated values and action, admitting and correcting a mistake, discretion and confidentiality, reliability over time
- Empathy: reading another person's emotional state, responding to distress, respect for people who are vulnerable or unwell, distinguishing empathy from over-identification
- Teamwork and collaboration: contributing to a group outcome, handling disagreement without escalation, sharing workload and credit, receiving feedback from peers, dependability in a shared task
- Everyday situational judgment: choosing an appropriate response to ordinary interpersonal situations at school, at work or in a group, prioritising between competing obligations, proportionate reaction to provocation or unfairness
The only part of the sitting that is not multiple choice, and it is written rather than spoken. UIC publishes no headings and no fixed percentage for it; the framework below is a preparation structure, not an official syllabus.
- Motivation for medicine: specific experiences, observations and values behind choosing medicine rather than science generally, a realistic understanding of long training, service orientation, teamwork and patient contact
- Ethical reasoning: a structured method identifying stakeholders, principles, facts, options and consequences, balancing autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and confidentiality, stating uncertainty honestly and naming what further information you would seek
- Communication and empathy: active listening, clarity and respect, adapting to vulnerable patients or families, maintaining professionalism while showing empathy, drawing on examples from teamwork, volunteering, sport, school or work
- Resilience and self-awareness: managing pressure, feedback and mistakes, concrete habits of planning, reflection, help-seeking and recovery, knowing your limits and learning from difficult situations
- Teamwork and professional fit: examples of leadership, conflict management and reliability, contribution to group outcomes and handling disagreement, disciplined study, service and humility as markers of fit for the profession

How difficult is the UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination?
The difficulty of this admission process is not mainly in the science. It is in the structure: half the mark is already decided, the other half splits between a science test and an emotional-intelligence test, with a written interview that can still move the result, and there is no past paper to calibrate against.
Half the admission mark is fixed before you sit anything
UIC's own FAQ puts prior academic record at 50% of the admission mark. That is the single largest component of the decision, it is settled by school results, and no amount of entrance-exam preparation moves it. The practical consequence: a strong academic record makes the tests a matter of not giving ground, while a weaker one means the tests have to do twice the work: a candidate 10 percentage points behind on record needs a 20-point margin on the tests just to draw level.
The science test is only half of the tested half
The knowledge test and the emotional-intelligence test are 25% of the admission mark each, and the structured written interview can raise or lower the result for the top 220 candidates. The science paper is therefore a quarter of the decision, no more. The defensible response is to prepare all three as if each mattered, rather than optimising for the one that is easiest to revise.
The Mathematics syllabus reaches into calculus
Limits, continuity, derivatives with the product, quotient and chain rules, antiderivatives, definite integrals and the fundamental theorem all appear in the syllabus headings, alongside complex numbers, vectors and conics. That is well beyond what most medicine entrance tests ask, and calculators are not permitted, so everything has to resolve by exact manipulation. For a candidate coming from a biology-heavy background this is usually the single largest gap.
There are no sample papers, by UIC's own statement
'No disponemos de modelos de examen': UIC says outright that it has no sample exams available. There is no past-paper corpus to pattern-match against, no confirmed question count and no confirmed option count. Preparation has to be built from the syllabus headings and from general Bachillerato-level command of the three subjects, not from exam-technique drilling against a known format.
Physics is the one genuinely ambiguous call
Physics headings exist in the entrance-exam syllabus an unofficial study aid attributes to UIC, but UIC's admissions FAQ names the knowledge-test subjects twice (both times as biología, química y matemáticas) and never mentions Physics. That makes exclusion likely rather than certain, since UIC never states it outright. Ask admissions directly before you decide how much Physics revision your plan can afford.
Benchmarks
What is a good UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination score?
UIC publishes no cut-off and no minimum score, so there is no number that can honestly be quoted as 'what gets you in'. It does publish 100 places and, in its FAQ, around 550 candidates at the tests, roughly one place for every five and a half. Its Ranking 26-27 for the 9 May 2026 tests lists 474 candidates by code, without marks: 130 admitted (15 of them through the university-studies route), 169 on the waiting list and 175 not admitted. What is publishable is the weighting, and the weighting is what preparation should be planned around.
Because the admission mark is half academic record and half admission tests, the most useful early exercise is not a mock exam; it is an honest reading of where your academic record puts you, and therefore how much margin the tests have to create. That calculation is available to you now, before any revision, and it determines whether the tests are a defence or a rescue.
For the knowledge test itself, the absence of any published question count or marking rule means percentage accuracy by subject is the only meaningful metric during preparation. Track it separately for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics rather than as a single number: the syllabuses are very different in shape, and the Mathematics one reaches materially further than the other two. Do not convert those percentages into predicted marks: there is no published scale to convert them onto.
Pending verification
- · How the written interview's adjustment is sized, and how the knowledge test's 25% divides across Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics
- · Total question count, per-subject counts and options per question
- · The mark for a correct answer (wrong answers are confirmed not to be penalised)
- · Whether Physics applies to the current cycle's knowledge test
- · Any historical entry threshold or nota de corte (100 places, about 550 candidates and an anonymous ranking without marks are published)
These specific numbers aren't public yet — an IvyTest simulator score is the closest benchmark you can get today.

How to prepare for the UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination
Cover three syllabuses properly, and rehearse the two components nobody revises
Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics to Bachillerato level, plus structured written practice.
- Start by working out what the 50/50 weighting means for you specifically: with your academic record fixed, how large a margin do the tests need to create? That answer should set how aggressive the rest of the plan is.
- Treat Mathematics as a first-class subject rather than a supporting one. Limits, derivatives, integrals, complex numbers, vectors and conics are all in the syllabus headings, and for most medicine applicants this is the largest single gap.
- Do all calculation by hand from day one: calculators are not permitted, and stoichiometry, gas-law and concentration work all have to resolve by exact arithmetic.
- Build a weekly habit of writing structured answers on motivation, ethics, communication, resilience and teamwork. The structured written interview is a confirmed component sat in the same session, and it is written rather than spoken: practising it as writing is what makes it transferable.
Even coverage across the three confirmed subjects
No per-subject share is published, so weight them equally.
- Split time evenly across Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. UIC publishes no per-subject breakdown, so an even split is the only defensible allocation; weighting towards your strongest subject is a bet on a figure nobody has published.
- Park Physics until you have asked admissions whether it applies to your cycle. It is in the syllabus the study aid attributes to UIC but absent from both of the FAQ's lists of knowledge-test subjects.
- Work from the numbered headings rather than from a generic Spanish entrance-exam syllabus, remembering that the numbering is IvyTest's organisation: UIC itself states only the three subjects and the first-year Bachillerato level.
- Once a week, sit a timed block of mixed science and mathematics questions followed immediately by a written ethics or motivation response: the point is rehearsing the transition between components, which the real sitting demands in a single morning.
Consolidate, and build stamina for a four-to-five-hour morning
Accuracy by subject, plus the endurance the sitting actually requires.
- Track percentage accuracy separately for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and revise wherever the gap is widest, rather than chasing an overall score there is no published scale for.
- Rehearse the full length of the session at least twice: roughly four hours, in one sitting, with a written component at the end. Endurance is a real variable here in a way it is not on a 90-minute paper.
- Drill the calculator-free mechanics that cost the most time under pressure: mole and concentration arithmetic, gas-law proportions, and derivative rules applied cleanly.
- Prepare two or three concrete personal examples (teamwork, a mistake corrected, a difficult situation handled) that can be adapted to whatever the written interview asks. Generic answers written under time pressure read as generic.
Protect breadth, and do not neglect the non-science half
Triage across three subjects plus two components that cannot be crammed.
- Stop adding new mathematics topics; secure the ones you can already do reliably (derivative rules, linear and quadratic work, trigonometric ratios and probability) rather than opening integration from scratch.
- In Biology and Chemistry, revise by heading and prioritise the headings that carry the most content: biomolecules, cell structure, molecular genetics, moles and gases, reactions in solution, and organic chemistry.
- Spend at least two sessions on written interview practice and one on situational-judgment reasoning. They are part of the same confirmed 50% and they are the components a last-minute science push cannot compensate for.
- Confirm the practical details with UIC directly: whether Physics applies, and whether you sit the 13 February 2027 exam in person or online. Neither is settled on UIC's pages, and both change how you should prepare.

FAQ
UIC Barcelona Medicine Entrance Examination frequently asked questions
It's the admission assessment Universitat Internacional de Catalunya sets for its Bachelor's Degree in Medicine in Barcelona. It is not a single paper: three components are sat together in one session of four to five hours, running roughly 09:00 to 13:00: an emotional-aptitude test, a knowledge test in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, and a structured written interview.
No. There is no shared national admission test among Spain's private medical schools: each writes and grades its own. UIC's process is distinctive even within that group, because half the admission mark comes from your prior academic record and the other half from three components sat in a single morning rather than from one written science paper.
The three admission-test components together are worth 50% of the admission mark, with your prior academic record making up the other 50%; that is confirmed in UIC's own words. UIC's Medicine page splits that 50% into 25% for the knowledge test and 25% for the emotional-intelligence test; the written interview has no percentage but can raise, lower or keep the mark, and is only marked for the top 220 candidates.
For 2026 it depended where you lived: UIC's FAQ and Medicine page say candidates living in Catalonia sat the tests in person at Campus Sant Cugat, and everyone else online. For the next exam, on 13 February 2027, UIC's entrance-exams page lists Medicine as in person and leaves it out of the online dates; ask admissions if you live outside Catalonia. Either way it is a single morning sitting of four to five hours.
UIC's FAQ names the knowledge-test subjects twice, both times as biología, química y matemáticas (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics) at first-year Bachillerato level. Physics headings do appear in the entrance-exam syllabus an unofficial study aid attributes to UIC, but UIC never names Physics among the subjects. Exclusion from the current cycle is likely rather than certain, so ask admissions directly before planning Physics revision.
Wrong answers are not penalised: UIC's Medicine page says so directly. It does not publish the mark for a correct answer or the option count, so IvyTest records one mark per correct answer as a neutral working assumption. With no penalty, a guess can never cost you, and if the paper runs four options a blind guess is worth +0.25 marks on average against 0 for a blank: answer everything.
UIC publishes none, and no pass mark for the tests or the admission mark. Its Ranking 26-27 for the 9 May 2026 tests lists 474 candidates by code, without marks: 130 admitted, 169 on the waiting list and 175 not admitted, for 100 places. A cut-off quoted elsewhere is an estimate, not a UIC figure.
No. UIC states this outright in its own FAQ: 'No disponemos de modelos de examen' (no sample exams are available), and its Medicine page adds that it does not hand out past years' tests. That is why preparation here has to be built from the syllabus headings and from genuine Bachillerato-level command of the subjects, rather than from pattern-matching against a known paper format.
Spanish: UIC's Medicine page says the entrance exams are in Spanish, though the written interview can be answered in Catalan, Spanish or English. The degree itself is taught in Catalan and Spanish, with some subjects in English, so prepare the syllabus with its Spanish terminology.
It's the one part of the admission session that is not multiple choice, and it is written rather than spoken, which is why there is no separate interview stage in the process. It is sat in the same four-to-five-hour session as the aptitude and knowledge tests, and UIC's Medicine page says it carries no percentage of its own but can raise, lower or keep the mark, and is only marked for the candidates ranked in the top 220.
UIC's Medicine page says the degree is accredited by AQU Catalunya, an agency accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), which it says opens professional opportunities in the US and in other countries that recognise those standards. The rest is general guidance, not a UIC statement: within the EU the degree follows the EU's rules for recognising doctors' qualifications, and practising as a specialist in Spain additionally requires the MIR (Médico Interno Residente), the national exam that governs entry to residency training there; that sits alongside, not instead of, EU recognition. Outside the EU recognition isn't automatic as a rule, but the UK is an exception. Under the Medical Act 1983 (section 21B, as in force on 12 October 2026), a Spanish medical degree is a 'relevant European qualification', so a graduate who applies to the GMC with one, whatever their nationality, is not asked to show the knowledge and skills other international graduates prove through PLAB/UKMLA; evidence of English is still required, and the rule is UK policy that can change. US-bound graduates need ECFMG certification via USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, the same requirement every international medical graduate faces.
Yes, with one honest caveat. The IvyTest simulator runs practice across UIC's three confirmed knowledge-test subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics), mapped to the syllabus headings, in timed, tutor and review modes, with a free diagnostic available without payment. Because UIC publishes no question count or option count, and no sample exams exist, that practice is built to the syllabus and to the confirmed no-penalty rule rather than to a confirmed paper format.
UIC's Medicine page gives Saturday 13 February 2027 as the next entrance exam, and its entrance-exams page lists it as in person. No separate deadline is published: you apply online, upload your documents in the admissions portal and pay the exam fee once they are validated, and the list of candidates closes one week before the exam (6 February 2027 for this sitting, by IvyTest's count).
You apply through UIC's admission form, choose your access route and upload that route's documents, then sit the tests. UIC counts the average of your last completed year: first-year Bachillerato if you are in second year. Candidates from the social, humanities or arts Bachillerato may sit, but the tests are Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at first-year level. No B2 English is needed; 15 places go to students with university studies.
UIC's Medicine page gives €310 per ECTS credit, €18,600 for the 60 credits of the first year in 2026-2027, subject to review each year. The entrance exam costs €110 on the Spanish and Catalan pages (€100 on the English one), and an admitted candidate reserves the place with 20% of the first year's price, refunded only if they fail Bachillerato or the PAU (UIC's admission steps call it non-refundable; its FAQ gives this exception). UIC's Becas Nemesio cover 100% of the first year and up to 80% after that.
Twelve semesters and 360 ECTS: 60 of basic training, 232 compulsory, 8 optional, 52 of external placements and an 8-credit final project. The first-year subjects (asignaturas) in the 2026-2027 plan are Biochemistry, the Musculoskeletal System, Introduction to Medical Practice (IMM1), Introduction to Medical Genetics, Imaging Techniques, Anthropology, the Nervous and Endocrine Systems, Molecular Biology, and Skin and Sensory Organs.
IvyTest publishes no student reviews of its own. What UIC itself states: a 99% pass rate in the MIR on its Medicine page (its FAQ gives an average of 98.4% over the last five years), the first private medical degree in Spain accredited to WFME standards, more than 2,200 hours of clinical placements, and two students quoted on the page praising its medical ethics and hospital placements from the first year.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut) teaches Medicine at Campus Sant Cugat, in the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya building, Josep Trueta s/n, 08195 Sant Cugat del Vallès, near Barcelona. Classes usually run in the afternoon, between 14:00 and 20:00, with laboratory practicals and clinical placements in the morning.
