Overview
What is the Our Lady of Good Counsel medicine admission test?
The Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Tirana runs its own written selection for its English-taught Medicine and Surgery degree, a six-year programme delivered as a joint diploma with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. For 2026/2027 the governing document is the university's Admission Criteria and Procedures (Prot. No. 184, 22 July 2026), which scores candidates out of 60: a written test worth 30 points and your upper-secondary grade average worth 30 points. The written test covers biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic. The 2025/2026 call (Prot. No. 216) scored out of 80 instead, with a separate 20-point English Language paper; that paper doesn't appear in the 2026/2027 table.
Admission is two stages, one after the other. The internal selection described in this guide comes first; candidates who pass it, and second-round applicants, “must register on the Universitaly Portal in order to sit the IMAT examination” (for 2026/2027, from 26 August to 9 September at 15:00), the Italian ministry's centralised English-language medicine test. The ministry's Decree no. 1005 lists 320 places for this Tirana campus under Rome Tor Vergata, all for non-EU candidates resident abroad, and the 2026/2027 call splits them 300 for Albanian citizens, 10 for other non-EU applicants and 10 for specified Kosovo applicants. The IMAT is a different paper (60 questions, a maximum of 90 points), so prepare for both. How the two results combine into a final place isn't stated in the documents. Italian and EU applicants aren't covered by the internal call, and Tor Vergata's own call gives the Tirana places to candidates resident abroad who need a visa while running its EU competition in Rome, so whether they can enter at Tirana, and how, isn't verified: confirm both with the university.
The second thing to be clear-eyed about is how much of the internal test the university actually publishes. The call fixes the two components and their weights, and the eligibility conditions: an upper-secondary diploma with an average of at least 6.5 on the Albanian scale, and a B2 English language certificate. It states no total number of questions, no duration, no number of answer options, no marking for correct, wrong or blank answers, and no pass mark on the test itself. Treat every question-count, duration, option-count and penalty figure you see quoted anywhere, including IvyTest's own working estimates below, as unverified until the university publishes it. IvyTest read the 2026/2027 call and the university's Universitaly notice on unizkm.al on 12 October 2026; the figures here are taken from them.

Structure
Our Lady of Good Counsel Medicine Admission Test format
The 2026/2027 call scores the internal selection out of 60: a written test worth 30 points and your school grade average worth 30. It publishes the weights but not the shape of the paper: no total question count, no duration, no option count. The weighting column below is official; the questions column is not published by the university, so it is left blank rather than filled with an estimate.
| Section | Questions | Weighting | Suggested time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written test (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Logic) | 1see the note below the table | 30 of 60 admission points (50%) | 1see the note below the table |
| English Language (2025/2026 only) | 2see the note below the table | Not in the 2026/2027 score table (it was 20 of 80 admission points in 2025/2026) | 2see the note below the table |
| Secondary-school grade average (not a paper) | 0 (assessed from your diploma, not sat) | 30 of 60 admission points (50%) | The call states the weight but not the conversion formula from an Albanian-scale average to a 0-30 point score |
- Not published by the university: the 2026/2027 call, read in full on 12 October 2026, states no question count and no duration for this paper
- The 2026/2027 call's table totals 60 from the written test and the grade average, with no English paper; instead the call requires a B2 English language certificate. Ask the university whether English is still tested in any form
Content
Question and subject breakdown
There is one written test, and the share below is the one figure the call does publish for it: its weight in admission points, not its share of the questions. The other half of your internal score (your school grade average, worth 30 points) is fixed before you sit anything, and the IMAT comes after.
Written test (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Logic)
30 of 60 admission points (50%)One written test in English covering biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic, pitched at upper-secondary level. The call names the disciplines and gives no split between them and no syllabus annex, so plan for all of them at comparable depth rather than betting on a distribution nobody has published.
English Language (2025/2026 only)
Not in the 2026/2027 score table (20 of 80 in 2025/2026)The 2025/2026 call had a separate written English test worth 20 of 80 points. The 2026/2027 table has no English line and asks for a B2 English language certificate instead, so check with the university before giving it study time. The degree and both the internal test and the IMAT are in English, so the reading and scientific-English topics below still help.
Marks
Our Lady of Good Counsel Medicine Admission Test scoring
Read this section carefully, because it is the one place where the difference between what the university publishes and what circulates informally matters most. The admission-point weights are official. The per-item marking on the internal test (how a raw right or wrong answer turns into a mark, and whether a wrong answer costs anything) is not published anywhere, and anyone quoting you a penalty figure for it is quoting an estimate. The IMAT that follows has its own published marking.
- Written test
- 30 of 60 admission points (2026/2027 call, Prot. No. 184)
- English Language test
- Not in the 2026/2027 score table; it was 20 of 80 admission points in 2025/2026
- Secondary-school grade average
- 30 of 60 admission points, equal in weight to the written test
- Ranking and next stage
- The internal selection ranks on the total out of 60. Successful candidates then register on Universitaly and sit the IMAT (60 questions, maximum 90, +1.5 / −0.4 / 0; Decree no. 1005). How the two results combine isn't stated
- Eligibility condition
- Upper-secondary diploma with an average grade of at least 6.5 on the Albanian scale (Council of Ministers Decision no. 436 of 03/06/2020, as amended by DoCM no. 46 of 27/01/2021), and a B2 English language certificate (2026/2027 call)
- Minimum score on the test itself
- None stated: the call sets no pass mark on the written test. The only stated thresholds are the eligibility conditions above (the 6.5 diploma average and B2 English), which are conditions on your record, not a score on the exam
- Correct answer
- Not published. IvyTest models +1 on the Italian state model as an estimate only
- Incorrect answer
- Not published. IvyTest models −0.25 on the Italian state model as an estimate only; this is the single most consequential unpublished figure on the paper
- Unanswered question
- Not published. IvyTest models 0 as an estimate only
- Raw marks → admission points
- Not published. The call gives no conversion from a raw score on the written test to its 30 admission points
- Reserve questions
- None: the Call makes no provision for reserve or replacement questions
- OFA (additional learning requirement)
- Not applicable: the Italian OFA mechanism has no counterpart in this Call, and no per-subject floor is stated

The 2026/2027 call names biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic for the written test and publishes no syllabus annex. The groups below are IvyTest's mapping, built from the unofficial preparation syllabus in circulation for this exam and cross-checked against a standard upper-secondary science curriculum; logic isn't mapped as its own group yet, so practise reasoning items alongside it. The English Language group belongs to the 2025/2026 paper. The exam is set and sat in English, so nothing here is a translation: these are the topics as they would appear on the paper.

How difficult is the Our Lady of Good Counsel Medicine Admission Test?
The science content here is ordinary upper-secondary material. What makes this admission awkward to prepare for is everything around the content: how much of the internal score you cannot change by studying, how much of the test's shape is unpublished, and the fact that a second, different exam, the IMAT, follows it.
Your school grade average is half the internal score
30 of the 60 admission points come from your upper-secondary grade average, exactly matching the 30 points the written test is worth. That half is fixed before you open a textbook, so a candidate starting from a weaker school record has to beat stronger candidates on the test by a margin, not merely match them.
The English paper changed between years
The 2025/2026 call scored a separate English Language test at 20 of 80 points. The 2026/2027 table has no English line and totals 60, and the call asks for a B2 English language certificate instead. Don't plan around last year's weighting: confirm with the university whether English is still tested, and keep your English reading strong either way, because both the internal test and the IMAT are sat in English.
Five disciplines, one paper, no published split
Biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic are examined together as a single test, and the call gives no breakdown of how many items come from each. You cannot rationally over-weight one discipline, because nobody outside the university knows which one carries the paper. Prepare all of them at comparable depth.
The exam mechanics are genuinely unpublished
No question count, no duration, no option count, no per-item marking, no pass mark. That is not an oversight in this guide; it is the state of the official documentation as of 6 October 2026. Practically, it means you cannot rehearse exact pacing, and you cannot know in advance whether a wrong answer costs you. Prepare to a brisk pace and to a conservative answering policy, then confirm both with the Didactic Secretariat.
Two exams in a row, not one
Passing the university's own test is stage one. Successful candidates then register on Universitaly and sit the IMAT, a longer, differently structured, differently scored paper (60 questions, a maximum of 90 points). Preparing only for the internal test is the most expensive mistake available here: plan from the start for both.
Benchmarks
What is a good Our Lady of Good Counsel Medicine Admission Test score?
There is no published cutoff, no published applicant volume and no acceptance rate for either stage, so any “score you need” figure you find elsewhere is somebody's estimate rather than a university number.
What is published is the shape of the competition: the 2026/2027 call offers 320 places (300 for Albanian citizens, 10 for other non-EU applicants, 10 for specified Kosovo applicants), up from 125 first-round places and a separate 20-place non-EU call in 2025/2026, and ranks the internal selection out of 60. Because ranking is against that cycle's cohort rather than a fixed bar, a total that would have been competitive one year tells you very little about the next. A preliminary 2026/2027 non-EU ranking reportedly ended at 36.65, but that is one list before the IMAT, not a cutoff.
Because the internal test's per-item marking is unpublished, even your own mock scores need care. Score your practice papers as raw marks under a stated assumption, write that assumption down, and look at the trend rather than the absolute number. Two candidates comparing “I got 24” are not comparing anything unless they are using the same marking rule. Track your IMAT practice separately: that paper's marking is published (+1.5 / −0.4 / 0).
Pending verification
- · Historical cutoffs for the internal selection (60-point scale)
- · Applicants per cycle on the Albanian-citizen route
- · How the internal result and the IMAT combine into a final place
- · The conversion from raw marks on the written test to its 30 admission points
- · Per-item marking: correct, incorrect and blank
These specific numbers aren't public yet — an IvyTest simulator score is the closest benchmark you can get today.

How to prepare for the Our Lady of Good Counsel Medicine Admission Test
Build the sciences to IMAT depth from the start
Full coverage of biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic, prepared for both the internal test and the IMAT that follows it.
- In week one, confirm in writing with the Didactic Secretariat which stages apply to you (the internal test, then the IMAT), and what the internal paper's marking rule and duration actually are. Everything else in this plan is built on those answers.
- Timetable all five disciplines at comparable depth: the call publishes no split between them, so a deliberate imbalance is a guess, not a strategy.
- Give logic and the IMAT's reading questions a weekly slot from week one: logic is named in the 2026/2027 written test, and the IMAT adds reading and reasoning items of its own.
- From week six, sit a full timed practice paper every fortnight, alternating an internal-style paper (scored twice, once assuming a −0.25 penalty and once assuming none) with a full IMAT-format paper (60 questions, 100 minutes, +1.5 / −0.4 / 0).
Weight your time to both stages, not to your comfort
The sciences and logic for both papers, with a fixed answering policy for each.
- Sit a diagnostic first, then put most of your time into the shared science core (it serves both the internal test and the IMAT), with regular IMAT-format practice so the second paper isn't a surprise.
- Inside the sciences, rank topics by how quickly they can be made reliable rather than by how much you enjoy them: stoichiometry, kinematics, genetics ratios and probability all reward a few focused sessions heavily.
- One full timed sitting a week from week two, reviewed the same day, logging every wrong answer by cause: content gap, misread stem, or ran out of time.
- Decide your blank-versus-guess policy now and rehearse it: until the marking rule is confirmed, answer whenever you can eliminate at least one option, and leave genuinely blank unknowns blank. That policy is safe under both candidate marking schemes.
Full timed sittings become the main activity
Volume of complete practice papers across both components, at a brisk pace.
- Two full practice sittings a week, one internal-style and one IMAT-format, timed tightly: with no published duration for the internal test, train to a faster pace than you expect to need rather than a slower one.
- Review each sitting for pattern rather than score: are errors concentrated in one science, or spread evenly, which points at pacing rather than knowledge.
- Spend at least one full session a week on the IMAT's marking: with −0.4 for a wrong answer, practise when to leave a question blank.
- Rehearse the exam-day rules: arrive at the Didactic Secretariat at least 30 minutes before the start with an identity card or passport, and leave every electronic device behind: possession alone, not just use, causes immediate exclusion.
Protect what you have, for both papers
Triage across the sciences, and rehearsal for the paper that comes first.
- Stop adding new science content; consolidate the highest-frequency gaps across all five disciplines rather than trying to finish any one of them.
- Put your remaining effort where both papers overlap: biology and chemistry carry the IMAT, and they are the bulk of the internal test's sciences too.
- Sit at least two full, timed practice papers in the final ten days, then taper.
- Confirm your sitting date, the venue on Rr. “Dritan Hoxha”, and your identity document the week before, and confirm the marking rule if you still have not, so your answering policy on the day is a decision rather than a reflex.

No. 184, 22 July 2026), the internal selection scores out of 60: a written test worth 30 points (biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic) and your upper-secondary grade average worth 30 points. The 2025/2026 call scored out of 80 with a separate 20-point English paper.
Both, one after the other. The university's own written test described here is stage one, and its notice for 2026/2027 says successful first-round candidates and second-round applicants “must register on the Universitaly Portal in order to sit the IMAT examination” (from 26 August to 9 September 2026 at 15:00), the Italian ministry's centralised English-language medicine test. The ministry allocates this Tirana campus 320 places for 2026/2027, against 150 the prior cycle. For 2026/2027 the IMAT was 60 questions with five answer options in 100 minutes, scored +1.5 for a correct answer, −0.4 for a wrong one and 0 for a blank (Ministerial Decree no. 1005 of 6 August 2026). The internal-test call covers Albanian, other non-EU and specified Kosovo applicants; Italian and EU applicants aren't covered by that call, and Tor Vergata's own call runs its EU competition in Rome, so whether they can enter at Tirana, and how, isn't verified: ask the university.
In person. It is an on-site written multiple-choice test taken in English at the university headquarters on Rr. “Dritan Hoxha” in Tirana. Candidates must present themselves at the Didactic Secretariat at least 30 minutes before the start with an identity card or passport, and possession or use of any electronic means of communication causes immediate exclusion: possession, not just use. The Call does not say whether the paper is paper-based or computer-based, and it says nothing about calculators, so prepare to calculate by hand.
The 2026/2027 call publishes the admission-point weights (written test 30, grade average 30, out of 60) and publishes no per-item marking for the internal test at all: no points for a correct answer, no penalty for a wrong one, no rule for blanks. IvyTest models +1 / −0.25 / 0 across five options on the Italian state model, and says plainly that this is an estimate. Under that estimate a purely random guess is worth exactly 0.00 raw marks on average: (1/5 × 1) + (4/5 × −0.25) = 0.20 − 0.20, so eliminating even one option makes guessing positive. If the real scheme carries no penalty, the same guess is worth +0.20 and you should never leave anything blank. The IMAT that follows is different: +1.5 / −0.4 / 0, published.
No pass mark is published for the internal test itself: the call sets none on the written test and no per-subject floor. The stated thresholds are eligibility conditions on your record: an upper-secondary diploma with an average grade of at least 6.5 on the Albanian scale, and a B2 English language certificate. Beyond that, the internal selection ranks on the 60-point total, so the score you need is whatever the last admitted candidate reaches that year, and the IMAT that follows has its own eligibility rules (Decree no. 1005).
English, throughout. The internal written test is in English, the IMAT is in English and the degree is taught in English; the 2026/2027 call also asks for a B2 English language certificate. No Albanian or Italian language requirement applies to the admission tests.
A great deal: 30 of the 60 admission points in the internal selection, exactly the same weight as the written test. It is also the one component you cannot change by preparing, so a candidate with a weaker school record needs to out-score stronger candidates on the test rather than simply match them.
For 2026/2027, 320: 300 for Albanian citizens, 10 for other non-EU applicants and 10 for specified Kosovo applicants, up from 125 first-round places and a separate 20-place non-EU call in 2025/2026. No applicant volume, acceptance rate or historical cutoff has been published for either stage, so treat any percentage quoted elsewhere as an estimate rather than a university figure.
Neither, and the confusion is easy to fall into because the Call's letterhead reads “Università Cattolica Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio”. This is the Tirana institution, Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel”. Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is a separate Italian university with its own, completely different medicine admission test, covered separately in this catalogue. Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York, was an American college: Pace University's history says it became the College of White Plains and consolidated with Pace in 1975.
This programme's recognition story is unusual. Albania is an EU candidate country, not a member, so a standalone Albanian medical degree would not receive automatic EU recognition. But this degree is awarded as a joint diploma with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, an Italian public university, and the school describes it as valid in Albania, Italy and EU countries on that basis, an arrangement that was legally challenged in Italy and upheld on appeal, so it has been tested rather than merely advertised. Confirm the current status with both institutions before relying on it. Outside the EU, recognition is not automatic in any case: UK-bound graduates go through the standard UKMLA registration route, and US-bound graduates need ECFMG certification via USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, the same requirement every international medical graduate faces.
Yes. The IvyTest simulator runs a science mock of the internal written test in timed, tutor and review modes, scorable under either the estimated −0.25 penalty or a no-penalty rule so you can see how much your answering policy is worth. Its 30 questions in 30 minutes are practice settings, since the university publishes neither figure. English questions stay available as optional practice, outside the mock's score, because the 2026/2027 call scores no separate English test. A free diagnostic is available without payment.
None that IvyTest found. The university's admissions pages, its Medicine course page and its 2025/2026 non-EU call, read in the Internet Archive's copies because unizkm.al blocks automated access, link no past papers, sample test or answer key for the Medicine test. The PDFs it does publish are the calls, the admission criteria, the faculty regulation and the Medicine study plan. The practice questions on this page and in the simulator are IvyTest's own, written to the five disciplines the call names.
No 2027 date has been published in anything IvyTest could read, so plan on the pattern. For 2026/2027 the call (Prot. No. 184) is dated 22 July 2026: Albanian citizens applied from 27 July to 1 August, the first-round test was on 19 August 2026 at 10:00, and a second round, if places remained, took applications on 15-17 September and tested on 18-22 September. Successful candidates registered on Universitaly from 26 August to 9 September (15:00), and the IMAT followed on 29 September 2026. In 2025/2026 the non-EU call (Prot. No. 243) closed applications on 10 September at 23:59 and held the test on 1 October 2025 at 10:00.
For 2026/2027, one written test in English on biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and logic, worth 30 points, plus your school grade average, worth 30, out of 60. In 2025/2026 the non-EU call scored sciences (biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics) at 30 and a separate English test at 20, with the grade average at 30, out of 80. The university publishes no syllabus: the topic list above is IvyTest's mapping. Those who pass then sit the IMAT.
The university doesn't say what level the science is set at; what makes the exam hard is everything around it. Half the internal score is your school grade average, fixed before you study. The question count, timing and marking are unpublished, so you cannot rehearse exact pacing. And passing leads to a second, longer exam, the IMAT (60 questions, a maximum of 90). No applicant numbers or acceptance rate are published; the 2026/2027 call offered 320 places.
€6,500 a year for 2026/2027, the full annual fee with nothing extra for taking or repeating an exam, on both the Medicine and Surgery course page and the fee page. First-time enrolments who are citizens of Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Bosnia and Herzegovina get a first-year scholarship of 15% with a school average of 9.00-9.99, or 30% with 10.00. The 2026/2027 test fee was ALL 5,000 for citizens of Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro and €150 for other non-EU citizens.
The English-taught course, founded in 2023-2024, is a single-cycle master's degree of six years and 360 ECTS, 78 of them practical exercises and clinical internship. Lecturers from Rome Tor Vergata teach it in Tirana on Tor Vergata's own programme, and attending at least 67% of each course's hours is compulsory. The first year includes chemistry and introductory biochemistry, physics and statistics, anatomy, histology and embryology, and biology and genetics; the sixth includes 12 ECTS of thesis preparation.
None of the university's pages IvyTest could read states a ranking position, and IvyTest has not collected student reviews. On its level, the university states two things: it was accredited with the highest evaluation in 2007, 2016 and 2017, and its course page lists Medicine and Surgery as a “Single Cycle Degree (Second Cycle Integrated Study Program)”. Established by a Council of Ministers decision of 27 August 2004, it was recognised as a Catholic university in 2011 and joined the International Federation of Catholic Universities in 2016.
In Tirana, at Rr. Dritan Hoxha, where the Medicine test is sat. Its Admission Office's hours are 08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, on +355 4 2273290. As for the meaning of its name, it is a title of the Virgin Mary: in Albanian “Zoja e Këshillit të Mirë”, in Italian “Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio”, and on its seal “Mater Boni Consilii”, Mother of Good Counsel. It grew from a foundation of the Sons of the Immaculate Conception, the congregation Blessed Luigi Monti founded in Rome in 1857.
