Overview

What is the University of Rijeka medicine entrance exam?

The University of Rijeka's Faculty of Medicine sets its own entrance exam for its English-taught Medicine programme, governed by the university's annually republished Call for enrolment in English-taught study programmes. There is no Croatian national medical admission test behind it, and it is not the same paper as the University of Zagreb's: the two agree on shape but disagree on the rules that decide who is eligible.

The paper is 120 questions in three blocks of 40, sat in a fixed order: Biology as items 1 to 40, Chemistry as 41 to 80 and Physics as 81 to 120. Every item in the official sample paper offers five options (A-E) with one correct answer, and each correct answer is worth one point, so the exam is marked out of 120. Two house-style habits are worth recognising before test day, because both appear heavily in the Faculty's own sample paper: option E is often "everything is correct" or "none is correct", and stems are frequently written negatively: "Which of the following is NOT...".

What actually decides admission is a 150-point ranking, not the exam alone. The Faculty ranks candidates on the 120 exam points plus up to 30 points for the secondary-school record, and the 2026/2027 quota is 50 students. Passing is a separate, lower bar: 60 correct answers across the whole paper, and in 2026/2027 it was the bar that decided, because the Faculty's results notice for each of the three terms said every candidate who passed would receive the Acceptance Letter. Crucially, Rijeka publishes no per-subject minimum for Medicine: the "20 of 40 per subject" figure that circulates in preparation guides is somebody's study recommendation, not a Faculty rule, and it is the single most common thing candidates get wrong about this exam.

  1. Next application round2027/28 Call not yet published. In the 2026/2027 Call, applications for the three exam terms closed on 27 April, 29 June and 29 August 2026 (the Faculty's application-procedure page gives 31 August for the autumn term)
  2. First exam term2027/28 not published; Rijeka runs three terms per cycle, the first around May: 8 May 2026 in the 2026/2027 cycle
  3. Second exam term2027/28 not published; the second term runs around July: 3 July 2026 in the 2026/2027 cycle
  4. Third exam term2027/28 not published; a September term is held only if places remain after the earlier ones: it ran on 4 September 2026
  5. Ranking list publishedNo 2027/28 date yet. In 2026/2027 the official results came out on the day of each exam (8 May, 3 July and 4 September 2026; the Call had scheduled 11 May and 6 July for the first two), each with a 24-hour appeal period
  6. Enrolment deadline2027/28 not yet published. In 2026/2027 enrolment ran on 16-17 July (spring and summer terms) and on 17 September 2026 (autumn term; the Call had given 17-18 September), and May passers confirmed their place by paying one third of the tuition by the end of May

Rijeka republishes its Call for enrolment annually and runs three exam terms per cycle, each with its own application deadline, rather than one fixed deadline. On a direct re-check of the Faculty's pages on 12 October 2026, no 2027/2028 Call existed; the 2026/2027 Call had run its terms on 8 May, 3 July and 4 September 2026. Because a September term runs only if places remain, the later terms in any cycle are conditional rather than scheduled; confirm the current term dates with the Faculty before planning around them.

Structure

Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam format

120 questions in three fixed blocks of 40, in the order Biology, Chemistry, Physics. No time limit is published: the Call, the Faculty's entrance-exam page and the official sample paper were all re-checked on 21 September 2026 and none of them states one, so the figure IvyTest times its own mocks against is a working assumption rather than a rule. Every question carries five options with one correct answer, and every question is worth the same single point.

Content

Question and subject breakdown

Three subjects of exactly 40 questions each, with topic scope taken from the Faculty's own official Preparation terms documents. Those documents carry no year stamp and have been unchanged since 2021, which makes them an unusually stable target to revise against, but also means they say nothing about how the paper has evolved since.

Biology

33%

The Faculty's Preparation terms give four headings: Cytology, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Human Physiology, and Ecology, Evolution and Systematics. Human Physiology is the largest single area in practice, running from blood and the ABO system through the cardiac cycle and conduction system to the respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems and early embryology. No Biology item in the official sample paper uses a figure.

Chemistry

33%

Officially just two headings (General and Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry), covering atomic structure and periodicity, bonding, stoichiometry and gas laws, solutions and acid-base chemistry, thermochemistry, kinetics and equilibrium, redox and electrochemistry, the properties of the main element families, organic reactions and nomenclature, and biomolecules. Organic structures do appear as images, unlike in Biology.

Physics

33%

A full third of the paper, with an official scope running from units and vectors through mechanics and rigid bodies, oscillations and waves, hydromechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and atomic and nuclear physics. Two practical points from the official sample paper: every Physics item is text-only, and each one supplies the constants it needs inside the stem (g = 10 m/s², c = 3 × 10⁸ m/s, e = 1.6 × 10⁻¹⁹ C, specific heat capacities) and resolves to round arithmetic.

Marks

Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam scoring

Rijeka uses two different scales in the same admission process, and confusing them is the easiest way to misjudge where you stand. The exam is marked out of 120: one point per correct answer, one answer per question. The ranking that decides admission is out of 150, because the Faculty adds up to 30 further points for your secondary-school record on top of the exam result.

Correct answer
+1 point
Incorrect answer
Not published anywhere. Five official sources were re-checked on 21 September 2026, including the sample-questions PDF itself, and none states a penalty, recorded as unknown rather than assumed to be zero.
Unanswered question
Not published. No credit for a blank is stated either way.
Maximum exam score
120 points (120 questions × 1)
Pass mark
60 correct answers across the whole paper (50% of the exam)
Per-subject floor
None. The Faculty publishes no per-subject minimum for Medicine; the "20 of 40 per subject" figure in circulating preparation guides is a study recommendation, not a rule.
Ranking maximum
150 points: 120 from the exam (80%) plus up to 30 from the secondary-school record (20%)
Places (2026/2027)
50; passing the exam makes you rankable, not admitted, though in 2026/2027 every candidate who passed received the Acceptance Letter
Reserve questions
Neither the Call nor the Faculty's entrance-exam page mentions reserve or replacement items, and the sample paper contains none.

Worked example

Take a candidate who is confident on 64 of the 120 questions, can narrow 30 more to two plausible options, and has no real idea on the remaining 26. Answering everything, the 64 score 64; the 30 narrowed to two return about 30 × 0.5 = 15; the 26 blind guesses across five options return about 26 × 0.2 = 5.2. Expected exam score: roughly 84 of 120. State the units carefully, because the same performance reads three ways: 84 is 70% of the exam, it clears the 60-answer pass mark by 24 answers, and it is 56% of the 150-point ranking maximum before any school-record points are added. Add a school record worth 24 of 30 and the ranking total is 108 of 150, which is 72% of the ranking scale but was produced by a 70% exam. On guessing: the Faculty does not publish what a wrong answer costs, so no expected value can be stated as fact. If there is no penalty (the likely reading, given the total silence in five official sources), a blind five-option guess is worth +0.2 exam points against 0 for a blank, and guessing blind on the entire paper would return an expected 24 of 120, nowhere near the pass mark. The useful conclusion is not "guess everything"; it is that eliminating two of the five options doubles a guess's return from 0.2 to 0.33 points, which across 30 uncertain questions is the difference between about 6 points and about 10.

The IvyTest simulator scores every practice paper against these exact rules.

Syllabus

Full Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam syllabus

Every group below comes from the Faculty's own official Preparation terms PDFs for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Where an official heading was too broad to revise against (Cytology in Biology, the two-heading Chemistry list, and the long Mechanics and Electromagnetism blocks in Physics), it has been subdivided along its own listed terms rather than regrouped, so nothing here adds to or departs from the official scope.

Items 1-40 of the paper. Four official headings, with Cytology split in two because it spans cell architecture, metabolism and cell division. No Biology item in the official sample paper uses a figure.

  • Cell structure and membranes: cell theory and Schleiden and Schwann, main cell types and their similarities and differences, bacterial cell structure and organization, bacterial conjugation and binary fission, nutritional types of bacteria, the cyanobacterial cell, the cytoskeleton and its organization and function, cell membrane organization and function, the fluid mosaic model of Singer and Nicolson, membrane transport, the Na/K pump, membrane-bound and non-membrane-bound organelles and their main functions, vesicular traffic between organelles
  • Cell metabolism and cell division: ATP production and the Krebs cycle, photosynthesis and the Calvin cycle, biologically important macromolecules and their classes, functions and examples, body water and its intracellular and extracellular portions and ionic composition, the chemical elements of the human body, the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis
  • Genetics and molecular biology: genetics and genomics, genotype and phenotype, alleles and interactions between alleles, multiple alleles, linked and sex-linked genes, Mendel's laws, monohybrid crosses with complete and with incomplete dominance, dihybrid crosses with dominance, test crosses, karyotype and homologous chromosomes, numerical chromosome aberrations including aneuploidy and polyploidy, spontaneous and induced mutations, DNA replication, DNA transcription, mRNA translation, the genetic code, codons and anticodons
  • Human physiology: blood composition and function including erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes, the ABO blood group system, anemia and its types, the main hematopoietic tissues and organs, the cardiovascular system and types of blood vessel, the cardiac cycle, stroke volume and minute volume, the components of the heart conduction system, the parts of the respiratory system, types of immunity and histamine, digestive system composition and function, the metabolic pathways of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, diseases due to lack of vitamins and minerals, urinary system composition and function, endocrine glands and their hormones, spermatogenesis and oogenesis, fertilization, gastrulation and the three-layer embryo
  • Ecology, evolution and systematics: ecology, population, ecosystem, biocenosis, biotope, biome, biotic and abiotic factors, ecological amplitude, ecological succession, land reclamation, endemism, relict species, species range, mimicry, evolution and the factors that drive evolutionary change, Carl Linnaeus and binomial nomenclature, the hierarchy of taxonomic ranks

Items 41-80. The official Preparation terms give only two headings (General and Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry), so the nine groups below subdivide them along their own listed terms. The subdivision is IvyTest's; every term in it is official.

  • Matter, atoms and the periodic system: chemical and physical changes, mixtures and pure substances, elements and compounds, states of matter, the atom and atomic mass, structure of the atom and isotopes, electronic shells, subshells and orbitals, electron configuration, the periodic system of elements, atomic and ionic radii, ionisation energy, electron affinity and electronegativity, noble gases
  • Chemical bonding and structure: chemical bonds, ionic and covalent compounds, double and triple covalent bonds, bond polarity, intermolecular forces, molecules and molecular mass, ionic and molecular crystals, the metallic bond and alloys
  • Stoichiometry and gas laws: relative atomic and relative molecular mass, molar mass, simple gas laws, the standard molar volume of a gas, the mole and Avogadro's constant, mass percent composition of a compound, empirical and molecular formulae

  • Thermochemistry, kinetics and equilibrium: enthalpy, exothermic and endothermic processes and reactions, rate of reaction, activation energy and catalysis, the equilibrium constant and its expression, Le Chatelier's principle
  • Redox and electrochemistry: redox reactions, oxidation and reduction, oxidation numbers, galvanic and electrolytic cells, electromotive force
  • Properties of the elements: physicochemical properties of hydrogen, classification and properties of metals, alkali metals and their properties, alkaline earth metals and their properties, the technically important metals aluminium, iron and copper, halogens and their properties, element names and symbols
  • Organic compounds and reactions: classification of organic compounds, hydrocarbons and their classification and properties, isomerism and stereoisomerism, substitution and addition reactions, cycloalkanes, aromatic compounds, mono- and disubstituted benzene derivatives, alcohols, ethers and phenols, amines, aldehydes and ketones, the properties and production of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone, carboxylic acids, hydroxy acids and amino acids, IUPAC nomenclature
  • Biomolecules and esters: esters, fats and oils and the ester bond, soaps and detergents, carbohydrates and their structure, classification and properties, proteins and their structure and classification, the peptide bond, nucleic acids and their structure and classification

Items 81-120. The official Preparation terms open with two unheaded lines on units and vector quantities, then run through Mechanics, Oscillations and Waves, Hydromechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and Atomic and Nuclear Physics. Every Physics item in the official sample paper is text-only and states its own constants.

  • Units and vector quantities: the International System of Units, base and derived units, the use of prefixes and unit conversion, the distinction between vector and scalar quantities
  • Motion and force: motion, velocity and acceleration, freely falling objects, horizontally and vertically launched projectiles, contact and field forces, weight, Newton's first, second and third laws, addition and resolution of forces, normal force and friction force, work, kinetic energy and potential energy, power, conversion of mechanical energy, uniform circular motion, centripetal acceleration and centripetal force
  • Rigid body mechanics: definition of a rigid body, resultant force acting on a rigid body, free and fixed rigid bodies, conditions for equilibrium of a rigid body, rigid body rotation with angular velocity, period and frequency; note that torque and lever calculations appear in the official sample paper even though the term list does not name them

Difficulty

How difficult is the Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam?

Rijeka's paper is not built to trip you on content: its Preparation terms have been stable since 2021 and its sample items resolve to round arithmetic with the constants printed in the stem. The difficulty is structural: a small quota, a pass mark that decided outcomes in 2026/2027, a ranking that decides only when passers outnumber places (which did not happen in 2026/2027), and a paper whose own house style is designed to punish careless reading.

Fifty places, and in 2026/2027 the pass mark was the bar that bit

The pass criterion is 60 correct answers of 120, and the 2026/2027 quota was 50 students, ranked to. In that cycle the quota never had to cut: the Faculty's notices for all three terms said every candidate who passed would receive the Acceptance Letter, and the places are counted by enrolments, not passes: the University's enrolment results of 24 July 2026 show 29 of the 50 places taken after the May and July terms and 21 left for September. What ended applications was the pass mark: 12 of the 60 candidates who sat scored below 60. A cycle with more passers than places would let the ranking decide, so treat 60 as the floor and your 150-point total as the margin above it.

A fifth of your ranking is decided before you sit down

Admission ranks on 150 points: your 120 exam points plus up to 30 for your secondary-school record. Those 30 points are worth exactly as much as 30 correct exam answers (a quarter of the whole paper), and they are already fixed by the time you register. The ranking decides only when passers outnumber places, which did not happen in 2026/2027, when the pass mark decided outcomes. In a cycle where it does happen, a weaker school record means you need more from the exam to reach the same rank, so the arithmetic is worth doing honestly before you choose a term.

No per-subject floor, which cuts both ways

Unlike Zagreb, Rijeka sets no minimum in any individual subject for Medicine, so a wholly unbalanced profile can still pass: 40 Biology, 20 Chemistry and 0 Physics is 60 correct answers and clears the pass mark. That is genuine flexibility, but it is not a licence to abandon a subject: 40 unanswered Physics questions leave no margin above the pass mark, which is what decided outcomes in 2026/2027, and in a cycle where passers outnumber places they are 40 ranking points conceded to every candidate who did prepare it, on a scale where 30 points is a whole school record.

The house style is adversarial by design

The official sample paper leans heavily on two devices: option E as "everything is correct" or "none is correct", and negatively worded stems: "Which of the following is NOT...". Both convert a question you know the answer to into a question you can still get wrong by reading too fast. Practising on four-option papers with conventionally worded stems does not build the habit these items are testing.

No published time limit, and three conditional terms

The Faculty publishes no time limit for the paper: five official sources were re-checked on 21 September 2026 and none states one, which looks like a real gap in its public materials rather than a research failure. Separately, the cycle runs three exam terms (around May, around July, and a September term only if places remain), so a later term is not a guaranteed second chance. Confirm both the timing and whether a term will run before you plan around either.

Benchmarks

What is a good Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam score?

Rijeka publishes its pass mark, its ranking formula and its quota, and after each exam term it publishes the official results: every candidate's exam score out of 120, their school-record points out of 30 and their total, listed by identification number. Its Admission requirements page says what the 30 school-record points evaluate (the overall average of all four years of secondary school, the final exam included, together with the grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or related subjects), but not the formula that turns a transcript into points, and nothing says what a wrong answer costs.

The 2026/2027 results sheets are the best guide to what a term looks like. Spring (8 May 2026): all 24 candidates who sat passed, the lowest with 64 of 120. Summer (3 July 2026): 13 of 20 passed, the lowest again with 64, and 7 failed, the highest fail at 55. Autumn (4 September 2026): 11 of 16 passed, the lowest with 67, and 5 failed, the highest at 58. Two more candidates are listed as direct enrolments, without an exam score. A pass is not a place taken: the University of Rijeka's enrolment results of 24 July 2026 count 29 students enrolled after the May and July terms, out of 50 places, and 21 places left for September. Because the September term runs only if places remain, stronger early terms in another cycle could leave fewer places, or none, for the later ones.

When you track your own progress, hold the two scales apart deliberately. An improvement from 78 to 90 correct answers is +12 correct answers, which is +10 percentage points of accuracy on the 120-question paper, and +12 points on the exam's own 120-point scale, but only +8 percentage points on the 150-point ranking scale, because the 30 school-record points do not move. The gain in raw marks and the gain in ranking percentage are different numbers describing the same work, and relabelling one as the other is how candidates end up over-confident about their position.

Strategy

How to prepare for the Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam

12+ weeks

Three sciences for rank, not for a floor that does not exist

Even coverage of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with the 150-point ranking kept in view from week one.

  • Sit a full 120-question diagnostic in week one and record it on both scales: out of 120 for the exam, and out of 150 once you have an honest estimate of your school-record contribution.
  • Keep Physics in the weekly rotation from the start. There is no per-subject floor forcing you to prepare it, which is exactly why it is where the largest ranking gap between candidates opens up.
  • Work from the Faculty's own Preparation terms rather than a general syllabus: they have been unchanged since 2021, which makes them an unusually stable revision target.
  • From week six, build in negatively worded stems and "none is correct" options deliberately: the official sample paper uses both heavily, and reading speed against them is a trainable skill.
8 weeks

Convert the pass mark into a ranking position

Move from clearing 60 to accumulating exam points that actually change your rank.

  • Diagnostic first, then check whether you are already over 60 of 120. If you are, stop treating the pass mark as the goal: every further correct answer is a ranking point against 50 places.
  • Rank your three subjects by points available rather than by comfort: whichever block you score lowest in has the most unclaimed points in it, and no per-subject rule is protecting anyone else from the same gap.
  • One full timed mock a week from week two, sat in the paper's own order (Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics), so the fatigue lands where it will on the day.
  • Practise Physics and Chemistry arithmetic by hand. The Call does not state whether calculators, periodic tables or formula sheets are permitted; the sample paper is written so you do not need them, which is the safer assumption to train against.
4 weeks

Full 120-question sittings and trap-spotting drill

Volume of complete papers, plus the two house-style devices this exam actually uses.

  • Two full 120-question mocks a week, timed at 180 minutes as a working figure since no official limit is published, and reviewed the same day.
  • Drill "NOT" stems specifically: on every practice item with a negative stem, write down what the question is really asking before looking at the options.
  • Drill "everything is correct" and "none is correct" options: check each of the other four before selecting either, because both are correct often enough in this paper to be real answers rather than filler.
  • On five-option items, force yourself to eliminate before guessing: going from five live options to three doubles a guess's expected return from 0.2 to 0.33 points.
Under 4 weeks

Secure the pass, then take the cheapest ranking points

Triage toward the fastest available marks on a paper with no per-subject minimum.

  • Stop adding new content. Confirm on a timed mock that you are clear of the 60-answer pass mark, which is the only threshold that can end your application outright.
  • Then hunt the cheapest remaining points: definitional and recall items across all three subjects, and the Physics blocks that resolve to round arithmetic with the constants supplied: kinematics, circuits, optics, hydrostatics.
  • Sit at least two full, scored 120-question mocks in the final ten days, then taper.
  • Plan for the logistics: the exam runs on-site in Rijeka in hybrid mode and simultaneously abroad, so confirm where you will sit it and what is expected of you there well before the term you have chosen.

Free Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam practice questions

Three questions in the format the exam uses. Choose an answer to see the explanation — nothing is recorded.

Question 1Biology · Genetics and molecular biology: incomplete dominance · Standard

In snapdragons, flower colour shows incomplete dominance: plants homozygous for the red allele are red, plants homozygous for the white allele are white, and heterozygotes are pink. Two pink-flowered plants are crossed. What proportion of their offspring is expected to be pink?

Question 2Chemistry · Stoichiometry and gas laws: molar volume · Foundation

What volume is occupied by 8.0 g of oxygen gas at standard temperature and pressure, where the molar volume of an ideal gas is 22.4 dm³/mol? (M(O₂) = 32 g/mol)

Question 3Physics · Optics: image formation by a plane mirror · Standard

Which of the following statements about the image formed by a plane mirror is NOT correct?

IvyTest Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam preparation

Ready to prepare properly for the Rijeka entrance exam?

Everything above is free and always will be. When you want structure (a syllabus-mapped book built on the Faculty's own Preparation terms, a simulator that runs the real 120-question, five-option format with the house-style traps included, lessons for the gaps your results flag, and help with the application itself), that is what the IvyTest Rijeka package is.

FAQ

Rijeka Medicine in English Entrance Exam frequently asked questions

High-school level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as the Faculty of Medicine puts it, for its English-taught Medicine programme: 120 multiple-choice questions in three blocks of 40 (Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics), with five answer options per question in the official sample and one point per correct answer, out of 120. The topics are those of the Faculty's Preparation terms for each subject, listed in full on this page.

Neither. Croatia has no shared national medical admission test, and Rijeka and Zagreb set separate papers. They agree on the surface (120 questions, three sciences, five options) and disagree on the rules that matter. Zagreb applies a floor of 15 correct answers of 40 in every science plus a total of 61; Rijeka applies a single pass mark of 60 correct answers and no per-subject minimum at all, then ranks candidates on a 150-point scale that Zagreb does not use.

On-site, in hybrid mode. The Faculty runs the exam at its own building in Rijeka (Braće Branchetta 20/I) and simultaneously abroad, delivered entirely in English. Three terms run per cycle: around May, around July, and a September term held only if places remain. In the 2026/2027 cycle they fell on 8 May, 3 July and 4 September 2026.

Not published. IvyTest re-checked five official sources on 21 September 2026 (the Call, the Faculty's entrance-exam page and the official sample-questions PDF among them), and none of them states a time limit. This appears to be a genuine gap in the Faculty's public materials rather than something hidden in a document we have not read. IvyTest times its own Rijeka mocks at 180 minutes as a working figure, taken from a web search rather than from an examination regulation, and will replace it when the Faculty publishes one.

One point per correct answer across 120 questions, so the exam is marked out of 120. Negative marking is not published either way in any official source checked, so no penalty is the likely reading but not a confirmed rule. On that reading a blind five-option guess would be worth +0.2 points against 0 for a blank, and eliminating two options before guessing would raise that to about +0.33, which is where the actual gain is, rather than in guessing blind.

60 correct answers out of 120, across the whole paper; in the 2026/2027 results nobody passed with fewer than 64. There is no per-subject floor for Medicine. The "20 of 40 per subject" figure that circulates in preparation guides is a study recommendation somebody wrote, not a Faculty rule, which means, arithmetically, that 40 Biology plus 20 Chemistry plus 0 Physics would still pass. That is not a preparation strategy, because those 40 Physics points still count fully toward the ranking.

Not by rule. Passing makes you rankable: admission is decided on a maximum of 150 points (your 120 exam points plus up to 30 points for your secondary-school record), and the 2026/2027 quota is 50 students. In 2026/2027, though, the Faculty's results notice for every term said that all who passed would receive the Acceptance Letter. A candidate who passes but misses a place can reserve one for the next academic year by paying one third of the tuition.

Yes, entirely: the whole paper is delivered in English for the Medicine in English programme, in Rijeka and abroad alike. Croatian becomes relevant later: the Faculty requires a Croatian language certificate at B1 level or higher before enrolment into the fourth year, and the Croatian course is included in the tuition.

The Faculty calls it high-school level, and its published results show the pass mark is a real bar. In 2026/2027, 48 of the 60 candidates who sat passed: 24 of 24 in May, 13 of 20 in July and 11 of 16 in September. The 12 who failed scored between 34 and 58 of 120. The quota is 50 a year, one of the smaller English-taught cohorts in our catalogue; after the May and July terms 29 of those places had been taken by enrolment, leaving 21 for September (the University's enrolment results of 24 July 2026).

The Faculty states that the doctor's professional status is regulated by Croatia's Act on Regulated Professions and Recognition of Foreign Professional Qualifications, in compliance with Directive 2005/36/EC, the EU directive on recognising professional qualifications. It also states that it is recognised by FAIMER and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and that its students are eligible for the US (USMLE) and Canadian (MCC) licensing exams. For the UK, the law answers rather than the Faculty: under the Medical Act 1983 (section 21B, as in force on 12 October 2026), a Croatian medical degree is a 'relevant European qualification', so a graduate who applies to the GMC with one, whatever their nationality, is not asked to show the knowledge and skills other international graduates prove through PLAB/UKMLA; evidence of English is still required, and the rule is UK policy that can change. Other routes are general guidance, not a Faculty statement: confirm them with the regulator concerned.

Yes. The IvyTest simulator runs Rijeka-format practice (120 questions, five options, one point per correct answer, in the paper's own Biology-Chemistry-Physics order) in timed, tutor and review modes, with the negatively worded stems and "none is correct" options the Faculty's own sample paper uses, and a free diagnostic available without payment.

The Faculty publishes no past papers. Its Entrance exam page links one full Sample entrance exam as a PDF (published 2021): 120 questions in the real Biology, Chemistry and Physics order, five options each, with its answer key in a separate PDF, Results of sample entrance exam. The same page links the three Preparation terms PDFs, and the Call for applications page links 13 example questions from 2017, without answers. The practice questions on this page are IvyTest's own.

Not published yet: the Faculty's pages still showed the 2026/2027 Call on 12 October 2026. That cycle ran exams on 8 May, 3 July and 4 September 2026, the last only because places remained. Applications closed 9 working days before the spring and summer terms (27 April, 29 June) and 5 working days before the autumn term (29 August in the Call, 31 August on the Faculty's pages). A preparatory course (€800) ran over the four days before each exam.

Secondary school of at least four years with Biology, Chemistry and Physics (or related subjects) for at least two years, the final graduation exam, and the entrance exam passed with 60 correct answers. Non-native speakers show English (TOEFL iBT 60, IELTS 6, a language school's B2 certificate or their secondary school's certificate). A premedical college, an MCAT of 125 or more in each section, a natural-sciences BA/BSc with good credits, or MediTest-EU above 70% may exempt you from the exam. A foreign diploma must be recognised in Croatia, and every applicant also registers on Postani student.

Tuition is €12,000 a year (€200 per ECTS credit), paid in full at enrolment each year; candidates who pass in May confirm their place by paying one third of it by the end of May. The application fee is €200 and is not refunded. The University's first-year enrolment fee for 2026/2027 is €55.50. The optional preparatory course costs €800, and the Croatian course needed before the fourth year is included in the tuition.

Only from a similar medical study at a university in the EU, and not into the first or last year. The Faculty asks for a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, no repeated years or study breaks, and a Croatian B1 certificate for a transfer into the fourth or fifth year. Requests go in from 1 to 15 September with certified transcripts and course descriptions; exams are recognised where the course load differs by no more than 30%, and places depend on the Faculty's capacity.

A six-year integrated programme of 360 ECTS, taught in English, leading to Doctor of Medicine (dr. med. / M.D.). The first year has Anatomy, Medical Biology, Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry I, and Medical Physics and Biophysics; the clinical years run from Internal Medicine in the fourth year through Surgery and Paediatrics in the fifth to Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Family Medicine and the graduation exam and thesis in the sixth, with Medical English in every year. The Faculty's Curriculum page links each course's syllabus.

The Faculty quotes no ranking of its own on the pages IvyTest read. It describes itself as founded in 1955 and the oldest and largest constituent of the University of Rijeka, recognised by FAIMER and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, with students eligible for the USMLE and the Canadian MCC exams. The University of Rijeka's own information pack (2024) says it entered the QS World University Rankings in 2020 and is a full member of the YUFE alliance.
